General Motors of Canada - CAMI Assembly Plant is Canada’s first large-scale electric commercial vehicles manufacturing plant and the home of BrightDrop. https://www.gobrightdrop.com  

Currently, the new 400,000 sq.ft. battery module assembly facility is being built at GM CAMI Assembly Ingersoll for BrightDrop Zevo production as well as additional Ultium EVs built at other GM plants.

The GM CAMI Assembly Plant is a benchmark facility, receiving the London Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement – Environmental Leadership Finalist Award 2020 and Wildlife Habitat Council Gold Program Award 2018 . GM CAMI Assembly was the only automotive manufacturing facility in Canada that received the Natural Resources Canada ENERGY STAR for Industry certification during two consecutive years (2018, 2019) and recognized as three-time winner of the ENERGY STAR certification (2018 – 2020).  

Key areas of responsibility include :

As an Environmental Leader supporting the CAMI Assembly Plant onsite you will have the opportunity to lead the waste (hazardous & non- hazardous) and process wastewater compliance program (onsite WWTP), air and GHG regulatory reporting (NPRI, GHG, EPS) and support the environmental management system (ISO 14001 certification) while being responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk and improve operational efficiency. 

You will work collaboratively with a team of Environmental Leaders and engage with subject matter experts and plant personnel to develop and implement solutions to improve environmental performance and reduce risk.  We are looking for talented individuals who have a passion for the environment and who want to help make the Ingersoll CAMI Assembly Plant a leader in environmental compliance and sustainability. 

  • Engage with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and any other local regulatory agencies to ensure implementation of robust environmental programs and to build relationships that support innovation and expedient resolution of concerns. (One Team)

  • Develop creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. (Innovate Now)

  • Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems in support of GM’s mission to deliver data driven solutions that allow us to operate efficiently now and in the future. (Innovate Now)

  • Monitor environmental parameters and progress to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.  (Be Bold)

  • Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate the latest technologies and provide long-term environmental solutions. (Look Ahead)

  • Demonstrate a culture of inclusion by actively listening, embracing change and educating others to work effectively together while providing environmental training and coaching. (Be Bold)

  • Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs, to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance. Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated understanding of provincial, federal and municipal environmental regulations and the ability to interpret how those regulations apply to site operations and activities.

  • Demonstrated understanding of GM environmental requirements and how those requirements supplement environmental regulations and apply to site operations and activities.

  • Working knowledge of Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles and ability to integrate environmental requirements into the GMS framework at the site.

  • Expertise to investigate complex environmental problems and apply sound technical judgment to develop possible solutions (e.g., complicated air regulatory reporting issue, significant waste issue, significant water permitting or compliance issue).

Additional Skills:

  • Work well both independently and on teams.

  • Highly developed oral and written communications skills.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

  • The ability to develop and lead teams.

  • Experience with analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex data or situations so that others, including senior leadership, can comprehend, respond and contribute.

  • High level of enthusiasm, persistence, leadership ability, initiative, and experienced judgment to identify priorities, initiate projects, and complete activities in a timely fashion.

  • Experience working externally with regulators or other public or private sector individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage smaller projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results.

  Experience

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in environmental engineering or related science, preferably at a manufacturing operation.

  • Understanding of manufacturing operations, preferably at more than one location.

Education

  • Post Secondary Education is required, preferably in engineering or related environmental sciences

  • P. Eng preferred
