The Ideal Candidate:
Electronic Control Units (ECUs) used in high Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) applications continue to be an area of growth in the global automotive market. Our team is looking for a creative and highly energetic Staff Safety Engineer who can lead ECU circuit level Functional Safety analysis work, and develop our internal analysis approach and procedures for build-to-print (B2P) ECU designs as part of General Motor’s Design First initiative. This electronics circuit level safety analysis will be in support of the overall System Safety Case development for ECUs within the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) electrical architecture technologies that are critical in achieving GM’s Vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
The ideal candidate will drive innovation, facilitate effective communication, and inspire enthusiasm within the team. We expect you to demonstrate leadership qualities, actively champion change, possess keen business intuition, and strategically address systemic challenges. You should also exhibit high learning agility, the ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation while challenging the status quo.
The Role:
In this role you are expected to have a high level of technical proficiency to perform various ECU, sub-component and circuit level Functional Safety analysis tasks, be responsible to train and develop analysis capabilities of other engineers and provide technical leadership to engineers to perform ongoing analysis work in support of various SDV ECUs. This team will function in the capacity of performing the required Functional Safety analysis within an ECU design responsible organization where work products will be delivered to the System Functional Safety organization to meet the overall system safety case and safety goals of the ECU. This team will interface across various GM engineering disciplines as well as external engineering entities to obtain needed information for the required safety analysis work.
What You’ll Do:
-
Near term – identify, lead interactions with and coordinate deliverables from a 3rd Party safety analysis provider to obtain required ECU circuit level safety analysis on SDV ECUs to meet project technical and timing expectations until long term state attained.
-
Long term – develop process, identify pertinent training, and help build, train and technically lead a team of ECU Hardware Safety Engineers to perform ECU circuit level safety analysis, hazard identification and risk mitigations using qualitative and quantitative methods on a multitude of B2P ECUs.
-
Lead ECU Safety strategy development and deploy safety strategies that balance overall System Safety with feature availability & performance
-
Coordinate and/or perform ECU circuit level safety analysis using various software analysis & documentation tools in the following areas:
-
DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis)
-
FIT (Failures In Time)
-
FMEDA (Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis)
-
FTA (Fault Tree Analysis)
-
-
Drive ECU, sub-component and/or circuit level design modifications determined necessary from the safety analysis work performed.
-
Develop new and/or revise existing technical safety related requirements for ECU CTRS (Component Technical Requirements Specification).
-
Actively lead, participate and contribute in System Safety GSSLT (Global Subsystem Leadership Team), ECU HW Change Control Board and ECU safety analysis Peer Review forums.
-
Stay abreast of new technologies and safety analysis techniques.
