Body/Passive Safety Software Design Release Engineer (SW DRE)
Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
The Role:
The Senior Software Design Release Engineer position will be responsible for sourcing (if applicable), validating, Farm/vehicle integration and testing, as well as releasing Body/Passive Safety controllers for production. This role now encompasses the activities previously led by a CSIE (Controller Software Integration Engineer) and CVE (Component Validation Engineer) and will be part of a SAFe Deployment Scrum Team.
The Senior Controls Software DRE will own the software and calibration as it impacts the customer and single point contact between GM, inhouse teams and the supplier, along with calibration work/integration testing/releasing. You will be responsible for creating, communicating, and leading various types of product plans and ensuring the on-time delivery of a domain-specific system (Body/Passive Safety components, such as MSM, SDM, AOS, etc.). Supporting integrated ART solution is thoroughly validated end-to-end (from supplier, through vehicle, and to the end customer). Additionally, you will be responsible for managing software related PRTS and ensure solutions are implemented in a timely manner. Lastly, the Senior Controls DRE will be responsible for troubleshooting software related issues.
This role requires a balanced mix of great technical engineering and leadership skills, where you will have a high level of responsibility for program delivery and communication level to all levels of leadership within the company.
What You’ll Do:

Deliver a fully integrated software and calibration package that is on-time and with quality to one or more vehicle programs under development

Lead the end-to-end software development process during sourcing (as applicable), Product Development Team (PDT) and engineering review meetings, problem resolution during vehicle development and drive continuous improvement opportunities to reduce controller warranty.

Good knowledge of SDV2.0, including SDV2.0 architecture, software components, FARM/MCUs, BTS, BDD, SDD, Solutions, Solutions Functions, PODs in Context, in Isolation testing.

Support and engage with PI planning, ARTs Leads/Managers, Scrum Leads/Managers, Product Manager, Program managers, Program teams, Purchasing, and/or Plants.

Oversee the delivery of fully validated software by mapping requirements to validation procedures (Validation Cross Reference Index - VCRI), create validation test plan (i.e. CG2999, CG3000) completion, support software change analysis reviews, serve as global validation workshare lead for any math-owned end model parts first used by GMNA, and issue software saleable status.

Support engineering change management activities (PCEs, ECM, CNs) and release of software datafiles for development, production, and service life of the program

Collaborate with Agile teams and component suppliers to continuously refine, prioritize, and deploy system features.

Responsible for investigating and resolving software & calibration related issues, managing sourcing technical document preparation (including SDV), providing technical expertise during the sourcing process (as applicable), tracking status of software readiness, and communicating software readiness and validation testing status to key stakeholders, including program management and VMEC leadership.

Train, coach, mentor other team members of the scrum team on the role of a Controls DRE

Occasional domestic travel (10%) to vehicle assembly plants, supplier vendors, and other sites may be required.

Support SDV implementation, design review meetings, software/calibration releases, collaboration with requirement teams, etc.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering.

Minimum 6+ years of Automotive Engineering experience

Demonstrates proficiency in these skills: taking initiative, working towards results, solving problems, and analyzing issues particularly where the problems are unusual and sophisticated, dealing with ambiguity, planning, and organizing including shown skills in project management, building relationships, collaboration and teamwork, critical thinking, experience leading meetings.

Demonstrated proficiency comprehending software design, system/subsystem requirements, and vehicle system architecture.

Must be capable of providing component specific direction to new engineers and supplier resident engineers.

Proficient knowledge of software verification/validation processes
-
This position requires legally operating a motor vehicle on a daily basis

DFMEA experience.

DFSS Black Belt Certified

Master’s degree in an engineering field

Strong software knowledge, design, development/architecture.

6+ years of DRE experience

Experience in the GM product release and specification process

Knowledge of OBD II and Functional Safety for Road Vehicles (ASIL)

Knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

Shainin RedX Journeyman or Master certification

Vspy knowledge and debugging/testing knowledge
