Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Milford, MI) three times per week, at minimum.

The Role:

We are seeking a visionary leader with a strong foundation in automotive engineering and artificial intelligence to take on the role of VMEC AI Strategy and Innovation Technical Lead. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in automotive systems and a demonstrated ability to operationalize AI innovations. This role will focus on transitioning AI proof-of-concepts (POCs) into production and ensuring seamless integration within cloud environments.
 

As a key leader, you will guide a scrum team in the end-to-end development and deployment of AI solutions for automotive applications. This involves close collaboration with engineering, cloud, purchasing, and legal teams to leverage cutting-edge technologies and drive transformative business outcomes. Strong leadership and strategic coordination skills are critical for advancing GM’s AI initiatives and delivering substantial value

What You’ll do:

  • Technical Direction : Provide technical direction to the team to properly Utilizes tools such as Azure, Databricks to streamline data processing, AI development, and deployment.
  • Automotive Domain-Specific AI solution: Lead the deployment of AI-driven solutions tailored to the Automotive Engineering domain, utilizing machine learning (ML), custom AI, and Generative AI models. Ensure seamless integration into GM’s cloud infrastructure with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
  • AI Thought Leadership : Stay at the forefront of AI advancements and present innovative ideas and solutions at key industry events.
  • POC Deployment: Lead ideation to deployment working with GM Cloud and GM Security team(s) to Develop, implement, and transition AI POCs into production-ready solutions within a cloud-based ecosystem.
  • End-to-End Timing Charts : Create and manage end-to-end timing charts to monitor and optimize the performance of AI models.
  • Solution Design : Collaborate with Cloud Architects and AI Engineers to design AI solutions that emphasize scalability, maintainability, and seamless integration.
  • Framework Development : Design and establish AI frameworks and methodologies to support scalable deployment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with a team of AI/data engineers, Cloud architects and business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into actionable AI solutions

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in Automotive Engineering, specializing in one or more mechatronics domains, with a proven track record in developing AI proof-of-concepts (POCs) tailored for automotive engineering applications.
  • Demonstrated Extensive expertise in deploying scalable AI solutions, backed by industry-standard certifications and hands-on experience.
  • Experience in leading a team in building RAG models and deploying them to production.
  • Proficiency in Azure, Databricks, and MLOps best practices.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

  • Ph.D in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications in Microsoft Azure, Databricks and from reputed institutions.
  • Familiarity with developing and deploying RAG models for enterprise-scale applications.
