Staff Product Manager, Occupant Protection
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Technical/Innovation Center in Mountain View (CA) or Warren (MI) three times per week, at minimum. This position can be located at either of these 2 locations.
The Software & Services division of General Motors is responsible for defining and delivering the software, electrical hardware, and services that enable and support GM vehicles. The Role:
As a Staff Product Manager for Occupant Protection, you will design and implement safety experiences that ensure occupants feel secure and confident. You will develop a clear vision aligned with the company's goals and create a strategic roadmap to bring this vision to life. Collaborating with stakeholders across the organization, you will ensure cohesive execution. Additionally, you will drive innovation and continuous improvement in safety features, leveraging customer feedback, industry trends, and new technologies.
This position requires addressing complex challenges in the customer experience space in ways that delight our users and align with our business objectives. You will be empowered to robustly debate and challenge the status quo. Success in this role demands the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, make principled decisions, and build consensus across cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences. What You’ll do:

Define and own the long-term product vision, setting strategic direction for vehicle in cabin Occupant Protection across multiple product teams, safety and engineering, balancing business objectives, and regulatory compliance.

Lead a cross-functional team of stakeholders encompassing Legal, Design, Engineering, Program, and Product Managers to create intuitive customer experiences that meet customer and business needs.

Actively monitor Safety Standards and Regulations, incorporate data, research, and market analysis to inform, define, prioritize, and drive execution of product roadmap.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

5+ years working on technology-powered digital products as a product manager
-
3+ years of experience managing products focused on Occupant Protection/Safety and sufficient regulatory knowledge to be comfortable communicating with stakeholders across the company and industry

Expertise in creating customer experiences using data and judgment to inform decisions

Well established skills in writing, with the ability to effectively balance and integrate vision, strategy, and technical details in a cohesive narrative

Strong verbal communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to all stakeholders

Proven ability to balance tradeoffs between consumer needs and expectations, legal and regulatory requirements, and business objectives

Ability to identify and drive the organization to generate key data and metrics to make sound decisions for customer experience and regulatory changes

Must be willing to travel to Michigan quarterly if located in Mountain View
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

Advanced educational background (MBA, Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, etc.)

Experience leading digital products across a variety of platforms (mobile, web, etc.)

8+ years of vehicle product management experience

Familiarity with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The salary range for this role is $168,000 to $258,800. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
