The Role
GM Defense (GMD) is a dynamic and exciting growth opportunity within General Motors! Within GMD, the Integrated Product Support (IPS) organization is responsible for providing aftersales support to our defense industry customers to ensure customer satisfaction and business growth. As part of the IPS organization, the Service and Sustainment Engineering Operations team has responsibility for the service deliverable readiness of every GMD vehicle globally. Part of this readiness includes Design Change Release (DCR) analyses, part number management and service part releases. The Service Parts Engineer position plays a key role in ensuring the quality of these deliverables.
The selected candidate will be responsible for leading all activities related to service parts management during the design execution and part change request processes. This person will participate in program/product engineering meetings representing service to advocate for sustainment service part deliverable awareness.. The Service Parts Engineer is expected to adhere to all International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
What You'll Do
- Responsible for GM Defense’s activity related to all deliverables (listed above.)
- Responsible for all GMD programs and GMD customer variants.
- Defense Change Release (DCR) Analysis – Comprehend GMD Part Number (PN) changes as well as GM commercial part number changes and the impacts to GMD
- Maintenance of the Provisioning Parts list (PPL) also known as the Service Bill of Materials (BOM) and determining PN serviceability
- Provide service inputs to the Master Parts List (MPL)
- Identify and track PN breakpoints and the impact to the IPS log products and supply chain
- Support PN questions from the field
- Author DCR for service part number changes
- Lead service part release in GM commercial systems
- Work with suppliers as needed

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of work experience
- Ability to work cross functionally to surface and resolve issues
- Passion for understanding the customer needs and delivering an exceptional product
- Experience in partnering with Engineering towards a common goal
- Comfort learning new tools and technology concepts quickly
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and demanding time frames
- Ability to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)
- Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
- Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with GM LLC SEO functions (Customer Care & Aftersales and Product Engineering)
- Understanding of GM Program Management and the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
- Understanding of Department of Defense and commercial vehicle products and related service/log requirements
- Experience working with US Army, TACOM, and other DoD functions
- Understanding of DoD and/or other government/military program management structures and the standards that drive them
