The Grand Rapids Plant has been building precision machinedautomotive components for almost 70 years.  It is the original home of theDiesel Equipment Division of General Motors and is well known for its valvetrain components.  Through the years, it has been a part of the RochesterProducts Division, AC Rochester Division, and the Energy & Chassis Divisionof Delphi.  Currently it is one of four plants that make up the GMCHconsolidated subsidiary of GM.

  • Safety Engineer is responsible forcoordinating/directing health & safety activities for facility orfunctional areas to eliminate industrial accidents
  • Advises management on continued development ofsafety and health culture
  • Provides direction, trains, develops andevaluates employees
  • Assists in the implementation and interprets thesafety and health provisions of local and national labor agreements
  • Facilitates the investigation of accidentsand/or injuries; conducts safety audits, surveys, and inspections to verifyappropriate compliance
  • Maintains awareness of state and federal safetyregulations; corporate policies and procedures regarding safety and industrialhealth
  • Develops and implements programs to reduce jobrelated injuries
  • Meets with local union representative and leadsin resolution of safety matters
  • Designs, implements, administration of plantsafety rules and instructions
  • Reviews and approves new equipment and methodsfor potential hazards
  • Analyzes safety statistics and developsrecommendation with consultation of customers
  • Trains leadership in safety related processesand assists supervisors in the safety training of employees Provide technicalguidance to management on Health & Safety Issues
  • Participating in Health & Safety committees
  • Provide plant leadership on health and safetymodules
  • Maintain positive relationships with local unionleadership and management
  • Accompany compliance officers and preparesrequired data
  • Demonstrates complete job knowledge andunderstanding of assigned work area
  • Takes input from employees, addresseswork-related issues and provides feedback to employees on their concerns
  • BS/BA Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene orrelated discipline or equivalent experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills includingfacilitation, negotiation and problem resolution
  • Demonstrated ability influence at the leadershiplevel Ability to build trust and respect at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative,set and execute to work plans
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational,prioritization and project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Discretion in dealing with highly confidentialmatters
  • Proficient in MS Office and related softwareprograms
  • Understanding of GM Global Manufacturing SystemSafety Certifications as required
