Design Quality Execution Lead 
 
Description
 

Following established Design Quality processes, this position will be responsible for identifying, escalating and/or resolving interior and exterior pre-production design issues for assigned program(s) to ensure our designs meet the General Motors vision to “Design, Build and Sell the World’s Best Vehicles” from a Design Quality Interface Development and Execution Perceptive.

 
Business / Strategic:
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with Program Team and cross functional organizations.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with global and regional Design Quality colleagues as required
  • Provide presentations to high level leadership and process change recommendations / proposals, etc.
People:
  • Develop strong relationships with all Cross Functional team Members to ensure their programs meet and exceed Design Quality execution expectations
  • Build strong relationships with fellow Design Quality staff both locally and globally to share lessons learned, create opportunities for improvement, etc.
 
Program Execution:
  • Total understanding of Design Quality Execution Enablers & competitive attributes required to make assigned programs win in their markets
  • Research customer satisfaction & quality data relevant to assigned programs (JD Power, Consumer Reports), evaluate researched information and make the necessary improvements for next generation of vehicle 
  • Initiate Virtual & Physical Property reviews per the Design Quality processes and  Lead Design Quality Execution assessments (Math / Properties) throughout vehicle development process
  • Identify and lead issue resolution & escalate when resolution is not resolved in a timely manner
  • Lead technical review of design to ensure technical correctness, customer needs and best practices are met       
  • Discover, filter, and assign ownership and closure dates for design quality issues         
  • Keep abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise   
  • Actively identify new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning
  • Ensure criteria and typical sections support requirements

Qualifications Required: 

  • Highly Proficient in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, TeamCenter and Unigraphics (UG)        
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to “seek to understand” 
  • Understanding of Global Vehicle Development Process
  • Working knowledge of Product and Manufacturing Engineering  Processes  and Requirements Focus on Exterior Requirements Metal forming, SMC processing. Etc.
  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Bill Of Process  i.e. Body Shop Assembly, Fabrication, Metal Forming, Paint & Sealing and General Assembly

Education and Training: 
  • Degree qualifications in design, engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • Significant experience working on design or engineering of vehicle Exteriors
