SuSubject Matter Expert in Dimensional Variation Management strategies.  Drive System Integration into key designs, with product and manufacturing enablers that will ensure successful builds, working with the proper teams.  Provide input on critical joint configuration and manufacturing build strategies.  Ensure Dimensional Technical Specifications (DTS) are aligned to Surface Quality standards and Global Customer Audit targets.  Support Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) with variation assessments to ensure failure modes are identified. Document Process Control and Reaction Plans for complex systems and Communicate lessons learned.   Practice DFSS methods.


Oversee support work from Architects and analysis group doing 3D variation analysis to balance DTS and identify issues/high contribution areas.  Work with cross-functional teams to bring resolution to issues/develop action plans to meet finished vehicle dimensional requirements.  Perform 1D dimensional analysis as needed to support DTS balancing and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, (GD&T) development.


Work with SMT & Dimensional functional organizations to ensure on-time, high quality deliverables to support the program needs.


Support Pre-Integration Build events as needed, prioritize issues, summarize dimensional performance, support root cause activities in a timely manner.  Report in program review meetings and document findings/recommendations.


 Ensure lessons learned and continuous improvement ideas are documented to improve process control and reaction plans for complex systems. Communicate current production lessons learned up stream in new programs. Requires some plant visits and working closely with Launch staff.


Validate dimensional analysis results via current product performance and drive lessons learned into DTS development process and GD&T templates.


Participate in occansional benchmarking of competitive vehicles for continuous improvement and validation of the GM’s Dimensional Technical Specifications Master Templates.





Basic required

Motivated, self-starter, effective in various workteam environments.  Need to be flexiblein occasional irregular work hours to participate in global conference callsdepending on the program.

Working knowledge of the Vehicle DevelopmentProcess, including process and product deliverables.

Working knowledge of Dimensional VariationManagement strategies, including coordinated datums, product/process enablers,variation analysis modeling techniques, GD&T strategies, and familiaritywith the ASME Y14.5.2  standards.

Useful working knowledge with the vehicle manufacturingand assembly processes.  An understandingof the contribution of these processes to finished vehicle dimensionalrequirements, including component, body shop, paint and general assemblyinfluences.

High level presentation and networking skills forproviding program status, issues, problem resolution, and roadblockremoval.  High level oral and writtencommunication skills.

High proficiency in usage of many computer softwareapplications:  MS Word, Excel PowerPoint,etc.


  • Required:  Engineering Degree or equivalent experiencein body, dimensional engineering, product development, general assembly.
  • Preferred:  Bachelors of Science in Engineering
