Position summary

Product Development Engineer – Interior Trim – Instrument Panels – Cut and Sew Experience

 

The Senior Product Development Engineer Instrument Panel or Floor Console is responsible for all activities - including definition of requirements, executions of design, and testing – for development of Instrument Panel or Floor Console trim.  This role requires technical expertise in the cut and sew construction of instrument panel and floor console components.  Experience in wrapping with leather, TPO, PUR, and PVC materials.  Understanding of stitching and GD&T necessary to support best in class seam to seam alignment on mating parts.  This role requires the exercise of technical direction over other engineers as well as engineering support personnel.  In addition, it requires frequent collaboration with peers in the creative design, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions.

  • General technical solutions for new programs for Floor Consoles and Instrument Panel Trim.
  • Providing technical leadership for advanced console or trim technology development.
  • Performing complex design analysis and developing engineering designs.
  • Working cross-functionally to implement cost reductions, methods, and product improvement, and to support program builds.
  • Releasing Floor Console and Instrument Panel Trim parts and subsystems for production.
  • Communicating information to and from internal and external customer organizations.
  • Staying abreast of new technology with specific emphasis on Cut and Sew technology.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited University.  (Technology degrees will not be considered.)
  • Minimum two years of product development experience with interior trim components not including internships
  • Experience with Cut and Sew wrapped interior components

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) – Green belt certification or higher
  • Experience with DFMEA and GD&T
  • Knowledge of plastic material and tooling
