Position summary

As a Group Lead he/she is in charge of general administration of an engineering laboratory group providing automated test development support to engineering product teams. The team is salaried and testing focus involves many of the following skillsets: engine, powertrain, electrification development and validation testing, component-level testing, device control, data acquisition, data-processing, and project management.  Work responsibilities are somewhat complex, follow general practices, standards, and procedures that involve a high level of independent judgment.


  • Supervise engineers and assure interaction of group leaders
  • Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards
  • Support GMS principles in an engineering space
  • Participate in the selection of new employees
  • Train, develop, assign work to, and evaluate employees
  • Advise on administrative procedure and resolve technical problems
  • Review and prioritize incoming work, determining delivery dates
  • Coordinate activities with related departments
  • Interpret divisional and departmental policy
  • Regular contact with stakeholders and laboratory operations
  • Drive continuous improvement in process and method

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent training
  • 2+ years leadership experience
  • 5+ years work experience in related technical area 
  • Ability to understand basic software coding concepts
  • Thorough understanding of math and engineering principles
  • Working knowledge of automotive components and electrical or mechanical systems found in a laboratory
  • Analytical ability where problems are somewhat complex and can be unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
  • Demonstrates managerial courage and displays initiative to take action in support of positive change
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Working knowledge of Test Methods
  • Understanding of design and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of engineering standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a lean principle environment (either manufacturing or laboratory)
  • Experience in a product testing laboratory environment
