About the Design Release Engineer Role:

The GM Heating Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC) offers opportunities across a spectrum of engineering experience. These product engineering positions involve responsibility for all activities - including definition of requirements, execution of design, and validation and testing - during the development of HVAC throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle. These roles require an experienced engineer to lead and drive a cross functional product development team. In addition, they require collaboration with peers in the creative design, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions.


The ideal candidate is one who desires to build their technical depth as an engineer within automotive HVAC. This candidate possesses exemplary communication, project management skills, and is a passionate, hard-working person who enjoys taking on challenges and following through with robust solutions.

The HVAC group is seeking individuals in the following areas:

  • Design Release Engineer – HVAC Ducts and Outlets

Responsibilities include:

  • Generating and executing technical solutions for HVAC hardware to support new vehicle programs
  • Providing technical leadership for advanced component or technology development
  • Performing complex design analysis and evaluating engineering designs
  • Working cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support prototype and production build activities
  • Balancing business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing
  • Production design release of HVAC parts into subsystems
  • Communicating information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Staying abreast of relevant new technology and competitive products
  • Responsible to work with the Development team on the complete system integration of HVAC subsystems.


Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s Degree or other Advanced Degree
  • Familiarity with the engineering design of Automotive HVAC hardware or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with Design For Six Sigma process
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Knowledge of plastic materials, processes, and tooling
  • Experience working with automotive OEM’s and HVAC hardware suppliers.
    • Experience in Thermodynamics, Fluid flow,  Design for Assembly and Manufacture
  • Knowledge of industry cooling and heating requirements and OEM  technical specifications
