Position summary

Active Safety Sr. DesignRelease Engineer (DRE) for Advanced Park Assist Systems
 
Automated Driving and Active Safety is one of the fastest developing areas ofautomotive engineering. General Motors is looking for exceptional candidates tolead the hardware and software development and deployment for sensingtechnologies. The candidate will be responsible for definition of requirements,design, analysis, development, testing and management of engineering projectfor Active Safety Ultrasonic sensors and ECU’s where strong analytical andproblem solving skills, creativity, resourcefulness, adaptability, initiativeand independent judgement are involved. The candidate will exercisetechnical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel andmay have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specificengineering objectives.
 
Some specific tasks are highlighted below:
 

  • DRE for Automated Driving sensing (Ultrasonic Sensors, ECU’s, and Brackets) including all elements of hardware and software
  • Develops component technical specifications as well as statement of requirements as required
  • Leads formal design, peer, and quality reviews
  • Leads resolution of technical issues
  • Leads product development team meetings
  • Supports vehicle Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) activity
  • Supports sourcing activities
  • Leads/manages supplier resident engineers
  • Primary GM engineering interface with the component suppliers
  • Intimate knowledge of hardware and software interfaces
  • Insure all vehicle program imperatives (cost, timing, investment, and quality) are met
  • Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs
  • Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development
  • Performs complex design analysis
  • Develops engineering designs
  • Implements engineering changes
  • Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data
  • Solves engineering related problems
  • Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, product improvements, and support builds
  • Plans and implements test and/or development programs
  • Releases parts and subsystems for production
  • Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Travels as required

Required Skills
 

  • 5+ years of experience in electronic component design
  • Demonstrated performance in a position requiring engineering technical excellence
  • History of success in applying advanced technology in complex systems
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
  • Knowledge of software development and systems as it pertains to engineering preferred
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • High level of oral and written communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience with Automated Driving sensors (Cameras, Lidars, Radars, Ultrasonic Sensors) a plus
  • Experience in Design/Development of Safety Critical Systems/Components
  • Experience in automotive network protocols such as CAN and Ethernet
  • Electronic module Validation Experience
  • DFSS Certification

  • Software Controls experience
  • Knowledge of Team Center Systems Engineering and/or IBM DOORS requirements management tools is a plus.
