Romulus Powertrain currently employs 326 people.  Hourly employees are represented by UAW Local 163.  The plant is currently in the process of retooling for an all-new V6 engine and all-new 10 speed transmission.  Historically, the plant has a long-standing reputation of quality, productivity and performance. The plant has been ISO 14001 certified since 2000 and been a significant environmental leader.

Job Responsibilities

The Process Engineer is responsible for assisting withdeveloping, installing, set-up monitoring and continuous improvement ofmanufacturing processes, under direct supervision.  Additionally, theprocess engineer evaluates equipment, tooling alternatives, sequence and flowof operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machinesand facilities necessary for the production of transmissions and/or engines.Work is performed in a plant activity where a considerable amount of creativityand initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.The work assignment can be on any shift.  Some travel (>10%) isrequired to equipment vendors and service vendors.

  • Support production and maintenance activities for engine machining
  • Troubleshooting quality and machine issues
  • Work with other team members on problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives daily.
  • Manufacturing process development and definition
  • Efficient material flow
  • Collaborating with hourly and salaried employees


  • Bachelor's Degree withmajor in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience required

Basic Required:

  • 1-2 years of prior high volume manufacturing experience
  • Ability to read part and machine prints
  • Familiar with process engineering disciplines.
  • Willingness to learn and to implement GMS principles (lean manufacturing)
  • Demonstrate proficient level of analytical and technical ability in process engineering
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and difficult projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results under direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
  • Project management skills
  • Willingness to learn designs, manufacturing and measurement processes related to engine and transmission components
  • Willingness to learn PFMEA’s, control plans and RPN reduction processes
  • Willingness to learn gaging and CMM requirements
  • Willingness to work off shift


    Basics Preferred:

    • In-depth knowledge of CNC machinery
    • Ancillary equipment experience (ex.leak test, heat treat, automation etc.)
