The database management teams are chartered with providing best-in-class end-to-end Database Management System (DBMS) and NoSQL solutions to our IT application partners world-wide. The teams are responsible for developing, implementing, administering, and managing all aspects of the environment to guarantee it’s secure, highly available, current, flexible, and globally monitored.

This NoSQL MySQL Database Administrator will work with other organizations across General Motors in the deployment, management, and support of Opensource database technologies world-wide. This includes but is not limited to, working closely with application teams, infrastructure groups, other DBAs, application developers and data architects to implement, monitor, manage, control, upgrade, and patch opensource data management solutions across GM’s database landscape.
Working primarily from our I/T Innovation center sites, this business critical role is providing around the clock active monitoring, design and implementation services in support of NoSQL and MySQL based database solutions.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering
Exposure to database technology (Cassandra, CouchDB, MongoDB, HBase, Hive, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MySQL or similar)
Basic application development knowledge in either Java, Scala or Python
Basic awareness of Relational and NoSQL data modeling, NoSQL database design and architecture
Excellent analytical, problem solving, written and oral communication skills
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail and think broadly with a system orientation
A strong desire to contribute to a fast paced, innovative team
Practical experience to NoSQL Database technologies such as Apache Cassandra, CouchDB & experience with MySQL Database technology
Practical Development knowledge in Java, Scala or Python with code samples
Understanding/experience in an Agile (scrum), and/or iterative development methodology
Basic Experience and familiarity with IT best practices (e.g., CMMI, ISO9000, ITIL, COBIT)
Relevant internship experience or entry level experience in a similar or adjacent role
