Position summary

In this position, the Attorney will play a leading role supporting the intersection between various legal disciplines and the product and market teams responsible for autonomous vehicles. New technology supports the rapid development of autonomous vehicle functionality.  Bringing autonomous vehicles to public roads raises new legal issues and will require new regulations and laws.  New business models may be needed support the deployment of autonomous vehicles, and will bring their own new legal issues.  Autonomous vehicle requirements and opportunities include unique vehicle design issues, such as the human-machine interface, as well as regulatory, marketing, and other evolving issues.  The Attorney will work closely with the development and marketing teams, and work with other autonomous vehicle legal team members, as well as key policy leaders, to provide advice related to emerging legal issues, legal and regulatory requirements unique to autonomous vehicles, and to support certain transactions related to the development and/or deployment of autonomous vehicles.  This attorney will also integrate with legal functions supporting privacy, security, marketing, safety and regulatory issues, to identify key opportunities for advice to the autonomous vehicle business teams. This Attorney must have the ability and willingness to lead in this developing area.

  • Interface with the autonomous vehicle legal team as well as colleagues in other legal functions to gain operational knowledge of privacy, security, safety, marketing, connected services and other areas of law to manage autonomous vehicle issues
  • Monitor and research laws and emerging issues related to autonomous vehicles
  • Work effectively with the autonomous vehicle development and deployment teams
  • Work with the business to support autonomous vehicle strategy and work with the public policy team in the development of applicable policy and regulatory frameworks
  • Collaborate with country and region attorneys to identify global legal requirements and best practices
  • Support transactions related to autonomous vehicle development and deployment
  • Develop, deploy and maintain best legal processes in this growing area
  • Monitor developing legal and regulatory issues and requirements

  • A law degree from an accredited law school is required as is a license to practice law in Michigan, or the ability to obtain admission into the Michigan State Bar within one (1) year of employment. Law degree from a nationally recognized law school preferred 
  • An ability to work seamlessly and as a team player as a member of the Autonomous Vehicle legal team
  • An ability to work across legal disciplines to meet the responsibilities listed above, as well as an ability to work well with all levels of the business teams
  • Transactional experience and regulatory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others, as well as the ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
