Position summary

Product Engineer – Interiors – Overhead Systems

 

The product engineer position involves responsibility for all activities including definition of requirements, execution of design, and validation and testing during the development of Overhead Systems throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle on current and future programs.  These roles require an experienced engineer to lead and drive a cross functional product development team that collaborates with peers in the creative design, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions.

The ideal candidate is one who desires to build their technical depth as an engineer within automotive interiors.  This candidate possesses exemplary communication and project management skills.  They are a passionate, hard-working person who enjoys taking on challenges and following through with robust solutions. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Generating and executing technical solutions for Overhead Systems to support new vehicle programs
  • Providing technical leadership for advanced component or technology development
  • Performing complex design analysis and evaluating engineering designs
  • Working cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support prototype and production build activities
  • Balancing business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing
  • Production design release of Overhead Systems and subsystems
  • Communicating information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Staying abreast of relevant new technology and competitive products

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Technology degrees will not be considered)
  • Minimum two years of experience in product development of interior components not including internships

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s Degree or other Advanced Degree
  • Familiarity with the engineering design of compression molding, and/or injection molding
  • Familiarity with Design For Six Sigma process
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Knowledge of plastic materials, processes, and tooling
  • Experience with Statistics, Mechanics of materials, Design for Manufacture, and Integrated Design
