Position summary

General Purpose of Position


Responsible for developing and integrating new infotainment/telematics features and interfaces into GM vehicles. Detailed understanding of component, subsystem, vehicle, and off-board operation for each feature/interface is required. This activity includes problem solving with support of other engineering groups. Work requires a very high level understanding of engineering concepts as they apply to systems integration.


Major Duties/ Responsibilities


• Understanding the detailed operation of cross-module infotainment features

• Verify operation of Infotainment features that cross module interfaces

• Analyze data logs such as Automotive Ethernet, MOST, CAN, and LIN for root cause identification

• Work directly with suppliers to develop, test and integrate interfaces and features that use them

• Assist in workshops to root cause development issues and document appropriately to a specific module owner

• Follow up to ensure issue resolution was performed timely and properly

• Understand system configurations and develop optimal combinations for development and test

• Order long lead parts and bench components early and proactively

• Develop execution plans for each integration release

• Identify and communicate group tasks to complete integration work ahead of time

• Train new employees on system operation, tools and organizational interactions

• Assist the Release and Validation organizations as needed

• Understands appropriate engineering methods

• Participates in design/peer reviews

• Able to follow detailed instructions from leaders or peers

• Utilizes input from internal/external customers to meet requirements

• Familiar with the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)

• Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in area of responsibility

• Shares lessons learned with peers and Manager

• Creates project plans, document work completed

• Keeps Manager informed of assignment status, timing, and technical issues

• Takes advantage of all learning opportunities

• Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

• Ensures high quality, on time completion of tasks

• DFSS Green Belt/Black Certified

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Working knowledge of the Vehicle Development Process

• Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others including global partners

• Working knowledge of how automotive component parts are manufactured

• Excellent knowledge of automotive concepts, function

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Integration related applications.

• Analytical problem solving skills

• Ability to apply understanding of automotive engineering terms

• Ability to work with global suppliers across multiple time zones

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering
