Position summary

A Mobile Equipment Operations Analyst provides Fleet Asset Management and Planning Services to all assigned sites. Fleet Asset Management and Planning is best described as the lifecycle management of GM’s mobile equipment fleet. This includes support for all the phases of forward planning, acquisition, maintenance, operations, and disposal.

Key Responsibilities

Liaison between GM Sites and Central Office Staffs:
  • Single point of contact for assigned GM Sites on Mobile Equipment
    • Planning & right-sizing of the fleet
    • Problem solving
    • Safety incidents & safety improvement
    • Technical subject matter expert (SME) services
    • Manage 3rd party service provider quality of service through use of the “Fleet Management Playbook & Audit Process”
    • Acquisitions
  • Implementation of data management and operating processes
  • Fleet asset management and optimization across GM Sites in North America
  • Provide technical SME guidance as needed globally
  • Work with other MEG Operations Analysts, service providers, and site staff to optimize fleet total cost of ownership.  This includes the movement of equipment through-out North America
  • Work with other MEG Operations Analysts, service providers, and site staff to analyze fleet conditions and to recommend a course of action as required (i.e. rotate/refurbish units)
  • Support the GM Site and the Service Provider, to conduct Mobile Equipment Right Sizing analysis which will include Required to Run (RTR) target setting and RTR Workshops
  • Ensure the Service Provider reconciles the physical inventory as required
  • Ensure the Service Provider updates equipment meter readings where available
  • Responsible for the operation of GM’s data management system (ITT).  Site specific requirements will be established and incorporated into this data management system by the Service Provider
  • The Operations Analyst will work with the Central Office Staffs and the GM Site staff, as required/requested, on advanced planning for changes in mobile equipment requirements within the site.  This support also includes development of cost estimates for budgeting purposes
  • Work with plants to develop plant strategies to move the fleet to a more capable and easier to maintain configuration
  • Support mobile equipment plant labor strategies
  • Provide cost effective solutions to operational needs including proper equipment and alternative funding sources
Equipment Disposition Planning:
  • Work with the Service Providers to monitor all of the equipment leases.  Upon end-of-lease the Operations Analyst will identify replacement equipment
  • Work with the Service Provider, upon termination of an equipment lease, to return the equipment to the Vendor in end-of-lease condition
  • Work with the Service Provider, upon transfer of equipment to another location, to ensure the equipment is in Plant Floor Ready condition prior to transfer.  This includes ensuring funding for repairs is available, and all disputes between locations are addressed
  • Understand and adhere to the GM Asset Recovery Process
Acquisition Management:
  • The Operations Analyst will work with the Central Office Staffs and the GM Site Staff on advanced planning for changes in mobile equipment requirements within the site.  This support also includes development of cost estimates for budgeting purposes.
    • Assist in Capital Forecasting for all acquisitions
    • Provide forward planning assistance in all acquisitions to determine the optimal equipment for the application, use of surplus fleet, and lease/rental options
    • Provide forward planning funding estimates including determination of sources of funding
    • Ensures all new equipment order documentation has been completed as part of the purchase requisition process
  • Support mobile equipment Buyer with the technical evaluation and construction of equipment bids
Mobile Equipment Technical SME:
  • Evaluate proposed mobile equipment for conformance to GM2050 Technical Standard for Mobile Equipment
  • Work with suppliers to modify equipment to meet GM standards and needs
  • Evaluate changes to GM2050 Technical Standards based on requests for deviation or improvement
  • Periodically review GM2050 to incorporate new technology or changes which need to be addressed
  • Support mobile equipment buyer on technical aspects of competitive bids
  • Support other Analysts and plant operations with root cause analysis of mobile equipment safety incidents and material failures
  • Publish maintenance and safety bulletins in coordination with Global Safety and equipment OEM’s to address operational issues
  • Propose changes to mobile equipment standards which will improve safety and maintainability
  • Evaluate mobile equipment configuration changes in terms of safety, maintainability, commonality, and reliability
  • Interpret OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA industry standards as applicable to the GM fleet
  • Host supplier forum with the Mobile Equipment Process Performance Analyst
  • Host the North American Fleet Manager meeting
Site Visits and Support:
  • Performance monitoring and problem solving
  • Implementation of common processes
  • Support sites in Problem Resolution Process (PRP) with troubled suppliers
  • Monitor transition plan when site moves to new Service Agreement or new Fleet Manager
  • Provide training in support of transition plan to new Service Provider
    • IT Systems training for GM Mobile Equipment Inventory Tracking Tool (ITT) and Asset Condition and Planning (ACAP) systems
    • GM Process training
    • Telemetry data management processes

  • Demonstrated strong project management skills
  • 5-7 years’ experience in Manufacturing, Material Management, Plant Maintenance or equivalent
  • Strong people skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and high level of independent judgment
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and team work skills
  • Proficient verbal communication and technical writing skills
  • Exhibits professional demeanor in working with GM groups and suppliers
  • Basic understanding of data management principles
  • Ability to travel to all GM sites in North America
  • Knowledge and understanding of automotive manufacturing facilities and operations
  • Fleet management experience
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with suppliers, manufacturing and non-manufacturing staffs, manufacturing engineering, and other GM staff areas
  • Computer proficient: Microsoft Office (strong with excel), email, internet
  • Knowledge of material handling equipment and industrial batteries
  • Knowledge of UAW collective bargaining agreements
  • Plant Safety Training: Driver Training, Aerial Lift Training, Fall Protection Training, Electrical Safe Work Practices Training (i.e. lock out procedures)
  • GMS training
  • Knowledge of forward planning, budget forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of GM purchasing processes
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Equivalent
