Position summary

Global Environmental Validation TIE
Global single point contact for developing, executing, and/or auditing environmental validation plans and procedures.  This position requires a diverse set of global people and technical skills to achieve GM global validation business goals.  Assist with test plan approval and creation, working with Validation Engineers, SMEs, and associated DREs/Suppliers of various electrical/electronic components (cross SMT).  Broad scope of responsibilities, including component, subsystems and integration into the total vehicle. Candidate will have a great opportunity to advance GM global validation landscape and make a significant impact to customer experiences of GM’s product offerings.  Candidate will need to exercise independent and team consistent approaches in a creative, robust, diverse, and efficient manner with minimal direction from Manager.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience in the discipline of Environmental (ENV) validation
  • Provides technical leadership with various internal GM engineering departments and external suppliers regarding ENV requirements and relating validation
  • Leads the strategy of new technology test methodologies and automation opportunities
  • Work with the current Infotainment and Telematics TIEs to continually strengthen global validation
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, & managing multiple simultaneous projects skills
  • Knowledge of Global Vehicle Development Process, specifically Validation ADV deliverables
  • Train, develops, mentors, and evaluates technical capability both internally and external to GM
  • Identify ways to reduce GM capital global expenditures and identify and drive opportunities of validation from Road (vehicle) to Lab (bench) to Math (Analysis)
  • Development of new Standard Work items as required
  • Mentor/Coach new ENV and Component Validation Engineers in all Aspects of ENV validation
  • Validation liaison to SMT and team members of QRD Focus Teams.
  • Supports CEMENT (Component  Environmental Test) validation database development, maintenance and customer support
  • Support suppliers with ENV test plans and upload to CEMENT for approval.
  • Originates unique approaches to engineering solutions to the most technically demanding problems
  • Train, develops, mentors, and evaluates technical capability both internally and supply base external to GM.
  • Recognized as the expert in ENV validation and associated technical tools and processes
  • Thorough understanding and skills to work at high level in all phases of the vehicle development process
  • Very high level of analytical/problem solving skills where problems are extremely diverse/unusual/difficult

Education and Training:
  • BSE, BS (MS Preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • DFSS Green Belt (Black Belt Preferred) Certification
