Position summary

A Group Leader is in charge of general administration of engineering shop groups providing support to engineering product teams. The team is salaried and their testing involves many of the following skill sets: hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical component testing on component test stands for Non-Fueled and Fueled Testing, fixture fabrication and design, project management, data acquisition and processing of information. Work responsibilities are somewhat complex, follow general practices, standards, and procedures, which involve a high level of independent judgment.

  • Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards
  • Supports GMS
  • Participates in the selection of new employees
  • Supervises engineering technicians and assures interaction of supervisors
  • Trains, develops, assigns work to, and evaluates subordinates
  • Advises on administrative procedures and resolves technical problems
  • Reviews incoming work and approves delivery dates
  • Determines priorities for work schedules
  • Coordinates activities with related departments
  • Interprets divisional and departmental policy
  • Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements
  • Fills in for absent supervisors
  • Regular contact with others outside the work group

Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum 5+ years work experience in related technical area 
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent training
  • Demonstrates managerial courage and displays initiative to take action in support of positive change
  • Ability to champion and lead change within groups
  • Experience leading teams
  • DFSS Black belt certified
  • Experience in a lean principle environment (either manufacturing or laboratory)
  • Ability to understand basic mechanical concepts
  • Technical knowledge, skills and ability in engineering area of responsibility
  • Competent with conflict management and problem solving
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Analytical ability where problems are somewhat complex
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, develop and grow relationships and partnerships and motivate employees and elicit work output
  • Ability to hold employees accountable for deliverables.
