Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time- but the general expectation is that the employee be on-site an average of three (3) days each week.

The Role

The Controls Automation Machining Staff Engineer has exceptional knowledge for CNC based controls, hands on troubleshooting & GM specifications.  The Controls Automation Machining Staff responsibilities range from specification and documentation development, design approval, to hands-on support at OEM’s and GM manufacturing locations.  Responsible to support GM Engine, Transmission, Drive Unit, EMotor, PPO, Castings and battery product program requirements, Servo applications. The Controls Automation Machining Staff engineer will be required to provide to hands-on support at OEM’s and GM manufacturing locations.  This role requires physical location/travel to GM vendor and global manufacturing sites while performing work representing the goals and direction from the Global Controls team.  Support Global Automation Systems organization with effective problem resolution and troubleshooting.  Significant communication and coordination of automation machining requirements will be required to leadership, engineering and suppliers. 

What You Will Do (Responsibilities)

  • Collaborates with Automation Machining specifications owners

  • Knowledge of GM automation controls design for machining processes

  • On site OEM debug support

  • On site GM manufacturing locations validation support

  • SPOC to work with process machining team for new technology development in machining

  • SPOC for machining safety designs and Global safety related items

  • Evaluate layouts and machine / equipment / cell designs for control designs

  • Responsible to develop global machine equipment legacy component strategy

  • Support Controls engineering with system implementation

  • Maintain and foster working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union management, supplier community and interface with support functions outside of ME Engineering as required

  • Participate in Controls Engineering meetings to represent Manufacturing Engineering machining issues and assist in improving the Department’s understanding of the machining requirements

Your Skills And Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science.

  • 10+ year experience in GPS and VS organizations supporting manufacturing engineering with proven track record of high-level plant support
