The Role:
As part of the Commercialization, Intellectual Property and Operations (CIPO) Internship Program, you will be collaborating on challenging projects, interacting with Industry leaders, and gaining exposure to GM’s technologies. Your efforts will support the commercialization of GM Intellectual Property (IP) and strengthening of our strategic IP portfolio. The Internship Program is a 10-12 week internship where current college students will perform jobs and gain valuable work experience in one or more of the following areas:
What You’ll Do:

Drive technology development and commercialization globally through strategic partnerships. Assist in identifying and cataloging GM patented intellectual property for potential licensing, identifying potential partners, developing technical marketing materials, and performing searches of GM and competitor intellectual property through online databases.

Support innovation and technology development by partnering with universities. Update playbook of clauses used in academic contracts, perform data audits and management of contracts, and provide overall support of university contracting efforts.

Develop tools and processes to improve the GM R&D IP user experience and automate workflows. Maintain and update electronic repository of intellectual property maps and review/update status of patents in GM’s patent management system.

Other ancillary support including special projects in Export Compliance, Library, Operations and Safety as needed.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Business Administration
- Sophomore status or above. Junior or Senior preferred.
What Will Give You the Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- General understanding of automotive technology
- General interest in intellectual property (patents, trade secrets, etc.)
- Entrepreneurial mindset
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office software, SharePoint a plus
- Programming experience (Visual Basic, Python, C, etc.)
- Well-developed communication skills verbal and written
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with direction
- Able to secure relevant information and identify key issues
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multitask
The salary range for this role is $3800-$5200, dependent upon class status and degree.
GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2024 Student Program.
