The Role

We are seeking a Motorsports Metrology Engineer to join a multi-disciplined team of engineers and technicians for testing, developing, and optimizing the performance of a complete race vehicle. Working with GM Key Partner teams to ensure they are racing the highest performing vehicles possible while building and cultivating close relationships with GM Motorsports colleagues and GM supported race teams is core to this role. You will be responsible for constructing, measuring, and testing components, sub-assemblies, and full car systems. Accuracy and repeatability of vehicle assembly are paramount to this process.

What You’ll Do

  • Create and execute measurement processes and best practices

  • Generate and organize measurement databases

  • Calibrate GM motorsports quality control inspection equipment

  • Track equipment certification

  • Conduct correlational analysis and benchmarking of inspection hardware

  • Interface and collaborate with GM Race Teams and GM engineering, specifically the virtual design, development, and validation groups

  • Provide direction and actionable data to GM race teams to improve weekend performance

  • Remain apprised of the latest developments in the field of Metrology to improve the methods and best practices utilized for vehicle inspection

  • Interface and collaborate with GM Race Teams, Series sanctioning bodies, and GM engineering

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • 3+ years racing / high performance vehicle applications preference

  • CMM experience, including creation of CMM programs

  • Body Scanning and/or NASCAR Optical Scanning Station

  • Ability to handle multiple programs efficiently

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship skills to effectively collaborate with others outside of GM, including partner race teams and sanctioning bodies.

  • Experience with computer tools, 3D CAD files, CAE methods and Experimental Data (Siemens NX and TeamCenter preferred)

  • Excellent written and verbal skills

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment, with strong work ethic and integrity

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Ability to maintain CMM equipment and software

  • Knowledge of database systems and part integration

  • Experience operating or interacting with various mechanical rig testing such as ride rate machines and SPMM

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, Data Acquisition, and Aerodynamics

  • Familiarity with electrical systems

  • Experience with the architecture and performance of race vehicles

  • Knowledge of NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA race series regulations
