The Role

The GM Motorsports Program is seeking a Performance Engineer to focus on developing and implementing analysis to characterize competitor performance through assessing the areas of strength and weakness across the competitor field and identifying the most important contributions to competition success. This analysis will span a variety of approaches, both utilizing data analytics to derive direct insight from on-track telemetry/timing and scoring data and resolving vehicle parameters by developing vehicle models and regressing model parameters from measured on-track data.  As the only member of the team focused in this area, this role requires someone well versed in vehicle dynamics, specifically as applied to motorsports, who has vision and motivation to develop and build a program from the ground up.  Close collaboration with other members of the Performance Engineering group and regular interaction with members across the greater GM Motorsports group and customer race teams is required.

What You’ll Do

Develop Competitor Analysis Techniques

  • Conceptualize competitor analysis techniques

  • Prototype models and analysis routines which implement these analysis methods

  • Work with data acquisition and testing groups to develop proper instrumentation to validate data sources provide in track feeds. Quantify precision and accuracy of input data

  • Execute competitor performance characterizations to derive insight for race event reporting and guide long-term vehicle development projects

  • Collaborate with GM Motorsports Simulation, Data Analytics, Strategy, and Software Dev groups to derive an optimal architecture and implementation plan to build software and support for week-to-week production operation

Work with GM Internal groups and external partners

  • To understand analysis areas to target for greatest benefit

  • To answer open questions across all GM Motorsports groups, building group knowledge
