The Team:
Who are we? We are the Design & Manufacturing IT software engineering team within the Vehicle Engineering & Quality IT (VEQ IT) organization at GM. Our team supports the development of exciting product designs and the development, simulation & validation of manufacturing processes, tooling and machines with modern IT solutions.
We are on the forefront of the development of transformative business processes accelerating the manufacturing of the future vehicle electrical systems from flashing, to installation and testing as it is being assembled.
The Role:
We are looking for an exceptional experienced people leader who is excited about developing and delivering cloud supported IT solutions designed for resilience and hands-off operations leveraging a team of software engineers experienced in full stack web development, Quarkus, Kafka and React UI and system analyst focused on requirements development, analysis and failure mode analysis. This leader will deliver industry-first capability and support the deployment and operations across the GM manufacturing sites globally.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Leads, guides and directs a group of highly technical employees responsible for software engineering & system analysis deliverables in support of the organization's business objectives.
- Collaborates with IT and business partner organizations to develop the validated set of IT program requirements.
- Demonstrates a high degree of independence and the ability to plan ahead.
- Drives modern IT development processes within the Persistent Team enabling Daily Builds of a fully observable application supporting global distributed operations.
- Leads the development of a resilient IT architecture enabling cloud supported code deployment with hands-off operations.
- Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures.
- Leads team to meet targets.
- Hiring: Identifies & leads staffing initiatives for work team.

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of degree
- 8+ years of experience in large scale web or manufacturing application
- Expertise in Kafka, Java, Quarkus including front-end technologies like React UI.
- 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture definition, documentation and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, observability, automated testing, daily builds and scaling)
- Experience working with multi-tier production software systems and backend datastores.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code and tests.
- Experience in working in an environment with leveraged horizontal teams in IT.
- Experience in collaborating with program management teams.
- Enthusiastic about the opportunity of impacting the manufacturing business and culture from the bottom up.
What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in open source technology conversion preferred.
- Experience in Jira and Github preferred.
