Work Arrangement

This role is hybrid . The selected candidate is expected to report to the Cole Engineering Center Podium a minimum of three days (Tues., Wed., Thurs.) per week , or as dictated by the business.

The Role

The Senior Field Quality & Reliability Engineer (QRD) improves customer satisfaction and reduces warranty exposure by leading the identification, analysis, containment, and resolution of field issues involving vehicle mechatronic hardware, ECUs, and embedded control systems.

This role connects customer experience, field-quality data, software and vehicle testing, and product engineering within Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering Quality (VSEE Quality). The engineer drives both short-term containment and long-term corrective actions across global vehicle programs while using automation, AI-enabled engineering tools, and analytics to improve QRD efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze field data, including DTCs, PHM data, warranty claims, plant data, service information, test logs, software results, and customer feedback, to create actionable field-resolution plans.

  • Identify, partition, prioritize, and track hardware, software, ECU, and system-level issues using GM systems, dashboards, and quality workflows.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards for test results, failures, quality trends, warranty performance, and emerging field issues.

  • Apply AI agents, automation, and advanced analytics to support engineering analysis, data triage, issue detection, dashboard automation, and QRD workflow standardization.

  • Represent VSEE QRD in CPIT, Focus CPIT, SMT Core PDT, QRD reviews, daily and weekly QRD calls, and other escalation forums as required.

  • Plan and implement target-sufficiency actions for QRD issues, ensuring temporary containment and permanent corrective actions are driven to closure.

  • Identify and manage breakpoints for service, plant, OTA, software, and vehicle actions.

  • Forecast quality and warranty performance targets and track progress against commitments.

  • Track trends, Pareto drivers, and Top 20 issue lists across vehicle programs.

  • Proactively identify emerging issues using plant, service, warranty, test, and field-performance data.

  • Coordinate software-bench and vehicle-test automation activities that improve issue reproduction, validation, and release confidence.

  • Collect, organize, and analyze test logs to identify failure patterns, data gaps, and missing, outdated, or ineffective test cases.

  • Support fast-response activities, service-garage escalations, and read-across initiatives across programs.

  • Coordinate and lead global QRD alignment, with emphasis on GMNA priorities, through influence and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Communicate clearly with engineering, manufacturing, service, software, test, supplier, and program teams.

  • Balance quality improvements with cost, timing, customer-impact, and warranty considerations.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Experience with vehicle mechatronic systems, ECUs, embedded controls, or automotive hardware and software.

  • Experience with software release cadence, OTA systems, software benches, and vehicle testing.

  • Experience analyzing warranty, DTC, PHM, test-log, or field-performance data.

  • Experience developing or using dashboards to monitor test results, failures, field issues, and quality trends.

  • Experience with software-bench or vehicle-test automation.

  • Experience collecting and analyzing test logs and identifying missing, outdated, or ineffective test cases.

  • Experience leading cross-functional issue-resolution efforts from problem identification through corrective-action closure.

  • Program-management experience and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with AI-enabled tools, AI agents, automation, or analytics used to improve engineering analysis, data triage, dashboard development, or QRD efficiency.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in Quality, Reliability & Durability (QRD), warranty, field quality, or reliability engineering.

  • Experience supporting CPIT, Focus CPIT, SMT Core PDT, QRD reviews, and other escalation forums.

  • Experience using QRD tools such as SI, TrackerGart, QDAP, DAS, GWM, and MERS.

  • Knowledge of hardware-versus-software issue partitioning and corrective-action processes.

  • Experience with GitHub or comparable software repositories and Artifactory integration.

  • Experience with automated software builds, CI/CD pipelines, and software-quality gates.

  • Experience with AI-based test-case generation, test optimization, or test prioritization.

  • Databricks experience, including data engineering, analytics, or machine-learning workflows.

  • Experience integrating engineering knowledge bases with dashboards, analytics platforms, automation, or AI tools.

  • Experience working with global teams, suppliers, and automotive OEM or supplier organizations.

  • Interest in leveraging digital tools and automation to standardize and scale QRD work.
