描述

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role:

The primary responsibility of the Process Engineer – Quality Operational Excellence is to get the process right by serving as a key enterprise leader in driving systemic quality improvement across Global Propulsion Systems. This role is responsible for identifying cross-functional failure modes, shaping prevention strategies, and influencing execution to eliminate repeat defects and improve customer outcomes. Work is performed in a highly collaborative, team-based environment with frequent interaction with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Plant Engineering, OEMs, and other manufacturing and quality engineers to successfully launch new products. You will be working in a centralized engineering center and plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.

The position plays a critical role in strengthening GM’s Quality Chain Framework—including PFMEA, Prevent Repeat Defect (PRD), Lessons Learned, and Global Read Across (GRA)—while providing technical leadership for Safety Field Investigations (SFI) related to manufacturing-controllable issues. The role also drives quality excellence by improving First Time Quality (FTQ), resolving RPLS/1 issues, and leading key quality activities such as PPAP, DFMEA-to-PFMEA linkage (DPA), and error-proofing plan development, all in alignment with GPDP timing.

This is a hybrid role based at the Global Technical Center, with opportunities to travel to local GM manufacturing sites for cross-functional collaboration.

If you are passionate about doing things right, committed to driving Propulsion Systems quality better, and comfortable engaging and communicating with leadership teams, this is your opportunity to build a rewarding career.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Lead identification of systemic quality risks by integrating warranty, field, and manufacturing data across multiple programs and sites

  • Drive enterprise-level root cause analysis and ensure robust corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained

  • Define, standardize, and scale Quality Chain Framework processes (PFMEA, PRD, Lessons Learned, Global Read Across) across organizations

  • Influence cross-functional leadership to align on prioritization, resource allocation, and execution of quality improvement initiatives

  • Facilitate global governance forums to drive transparency, decision-making, and knowledge sharing on critical quality issues

  • Coach engineering and manufacturing teams on advanced problem-solving, failure analysis, and defect prevention strategies

  • Provide technical leadership in Safety Field Investigations (SFI), ensuring manufacturing-related root causes are clearly identified and addressed

  • Drive escalation and resolution of high-risk quality issues, ensuring timely containment and long-term systemic countermeasures

  • Translate complex system interactions (propulsion and electrification) into actionable insights for prevention and standard work improvements

  • Perform as PRTS SME from GPS ME Organization

  • Domestic & International travel - about 15-20%

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)

  • 3+ years of Quality Engineering experience or Manufacturing Experience

  • Confirmed high level understanding of Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering

  • Ability to travel

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree

  • Manufacturing Engineering assignments with successful individual and/or team-based achievements

  • Proven ability to lead complex problem-solving efforts and drive systemic improvements

  • Strong experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Red X, DFSS, or equivalent)
