Work Arrangement:
Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Defiance, OH on a full-time basis.
What You’ll Do:
As a Quality Engineer specializing in Aluminum Casting at General Motors LLC, you will support the quality of cast aluminum components by helping maintain quality systems, working with suppliers, and contributing to continuous improvement across the manufacturing process. This is an entry-level position designed for a candidate who is developing technical knowledge and can grow into broader quality engineering responsibilities.
This position requires availability to work all 3 shifts.
Job Responsibilities

Support Built-In Quality (BIQ) initiatives to help prevent defects and improve manufacturing processes for aluminum casting.

Assist with Engineering and Supplier Quality activities, including supplier communication, development, and performance monitoring related to cast aluminum parts.

Interpret engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to support part conformity and resolution of quality concerns.

Use GEPICS (Global Engineering Process Information Control System) for documentation, tracking, and management of quality-related data and processes.

Support GSIP (Global Supplier Information Portal) processes to help maintain effective communication and collaboration with aluminum casting suppliers.

Help monitor and improve manufacturing processes related to aluminum casting by identifying opportunities for quality improvement and defect reduction.

Participate in problem-solving activities using structured Problem Resolution and Tracking methods to identify root causes, support corrective actions, and help prevent recurrence.

Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Process Control Plans (PCPs) for aluminum casting operations.

Conduct or support audits and inspections of casting processes and products to verify compliance with GM standards and specifications.

Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to address quality concerns and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:

Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Material Sciences, Manufacturing Engineering, or related area

Must be graduating between May 2026 and December 2026

Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week

Must be willing to work in a plant environment
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Entry-level experience in manufacturing, quality, aluminum casting, or a related production environment through work experience, internships, co-ops, or academic projects is preferred.

Basic understanding of Built-In Quality (BIQ) principles and quality systems in a manufacturing environment.

Familiarity with engineering and supplier quality processes is preferred.

Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Exposure to GEPICS, GSIP, or similar quality management systems is preferred.

Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, with experience in aluminum casting preferred.

Familiarity with structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, or Fishbone analysis.

Ability to support the development and maintenance of Process Control Plans (PCPs).

Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

Ability to travel as required to supplier sites and manufacturing facilities.

Must be available to work all 3 shifts.
