About Our Team

The VMEC Analytics team turns data and AI capability into direct business impact across six connected value streams: Data (access and pipelines), Insights (analytics output), Models (reusable intelligence), Tools (products and platforms), Services (investigations and support), and Enablement (guidance and governance).

The Role

General Motors is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for the position of Data Analyst within the Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) Analytics team. This role sits at the Application/Delivery stage of our analytics lifecycle - the front-line translator between business needs and analytical output.

As a VMEC Data Analyst, you will own customer-facing delivery: turning model outputs and data into usable tools, dashboards, and investigative insights. You will serve as the primary point of contact for partner teams, helping them get value from shared platforms and analytical products. This is a delivery and usability-focused role - you will consume model outputs and APIs to drive business impact.

This role sits within a horizontal support team that serves a wide range of partners simultaneously - spanning product development, business operations, warranty, quality, program management, and more. Success here requires breadth over depth - managing competing priorities across partners, context-switching fluidly between domains, and consistently delivering value to a diverse set of stakeholders rather than going deep on a single area.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain interactive dashboards, conversational UIs, and self-service reporting tools to support critical business operations.
  • Execute investigations and deliver clear, actionable analytical insights to partner teams and stakeholders.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into scoped, well-defined analytical problems.
  • Support partner teams and end users in steady-state product operations, ensuring they get value from the tools and platforms your team delivers.
  • Onboard partner teams onto shared platforms and guide them toward self-service capability.
  • Participate in intake triage and request decomposition, helping scope and prioritize incoming analytical work.
  • Facilitate data-driven decision-making by delivering clear, concise findings and recommendations to key stakeholders and leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify analytical needs and proactively design solutions that support business objectives.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Math, or Physics.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience utilizing data analysis and delivering analytical solutions to business customers.
  • Proficiency in data visualization and dashboard tools: Power BI, Plotly, Streamlit, Dash.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills for analysis, reporting, and automation.
  • Ability to translate technical output into clear business language for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to work through ambiguous problem statements to define concrete deliverables.
  • Passion for data-driven results and customer impact.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Math, or Physics.
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing data analysis methods and solving complex business problems.
  • Experience with vehicle diagnostics, warranty, or quality data.
  • Experience working with vehicle telematics data.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML model outputs and APIs (consuming and integrating).
  • Experience with Azure, Databricks, Spark, Hive, Hadoop, or dBeaver.
  • Embedded controls experience.
  • Experience working in an Agile or SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment, including PI planning, sprint cadences, and structured intake processes.
  • Software engineering experience, including version control with GitHub and CI/CD pipeline practices.
