The Role
CRFM Technical Specialist – Condenser, Radiator, and Fan Module
The CRFM Technical Specialist is the technical owner and subject matter expert for the condenser, radiator, and fan module as an integrated subsystem across vehicle programs. This 8th-level individual contributor role is responsible for defining and driving subsystem strategy, requirements, performance, integration, validation, launch readiness, and field resolution, while ensuring alignment to vehicle-level thermal, packaging, cost, quality, manufacturing, and customer requirements.
Unlike a component-focused Technical Specialist role, this position has end-to-end responsibility for subsystem performance and integration and is expected to technically lead the sub-component Technical Specialists to deliver the subsystem as a whole. The role requires broad technical judgment, independent decision-making, and the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams, suppliers, and leadership without direct authority.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in heat exchangers, airflow systems, thermal system integration, vehicle packaging, materials, durability, supplier execution, and high-volume automotive manufacturing. This role works closely with ETLs, Vehicle Performance Owners, DREs, systems engineers, suppliers, and cross-functional partners to ensure the CRFM subsystem meets customer and vehicle program requirements with strong technical rigor and best-in-industry total enterprise cost.
This role is expected to operate as a recognized expert with broad latitude to solve complex, cross-functional problems, establish and improve subsystem standards and methods, and drive implementation of innovative solutions across programs. The CRFM Technical Specialist sets technical direction, owns subsystem-level objectives and key performance indicators, and delivers measurable functional impact through both direct technical contribution and indirect leadership.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the technical owner and SME for the CRFM subsystem, including condenser, radiator, fan, and all key subsystem interfaces across vehicle programs.
- Define and drive subsystem strategy, architecture, requirements, and technology direction in alignment with vehicle-level thermal, airflow, packaging, quality, manufacturing, and customer needs.
- Set and own subsystem-level technical objectives, metrics, and key performance indicators for performance, mass, cost, quality, durability, and launch readiness.
- Technically lead the sub-component Technical Specialists and related DREs to ensure coordinated execution, robust engineering decisions, and optimized subsystem-level outcomes across the full development cycle.
- Work with Vehicle Performance Owners and systems teams to decompose vehicle-level requirements into subsystem- and component-level targets and ensure traceability through design, validation, and production execution.
- Lead subsystem integration across condenser, radiator, and fan functions, ensuring performance, durability, packaging, airflow, assembly, serviceability, and manufacturing requirements are properly balanced.
- Drive virtual analysis with internal teams and suppliers to ensure subsystem performance, durability, and integration, including coordination of supporting CAE and simulation activities as required.
- Own and influence subsystem cost, mass, performance, quality, and total enterprise cost strategy, while driving tradeoff decisions across the integrated module.
- Lead technical evaluation and approval of supplier designs, engineering solutions, validation plans, and manufacturing readiness for CRFM subsystem hardware and interfaces.
- Develop and maintain subsystem timing plans aligned to program milestones, sourcing events, prototype builds, and validation deliverables.
- Develop and maintain subsystem Interface Control Documents, KCDS, and other technical definition documents required to manage interfaces and requirements across the module.
- Author and release subsystem specifications, C2 documentation, and sourcing Statements of Requirements in support of program execution and supplier alignment.
- Develop, improve, and institutionalize subsystem standards, best practices, engineering methods, and decision frameworks for use across programs.
- Lead technical reviews, peer reviews, sourcing support, and supplier technical assessments for the subsystem and ensure strong technical rigor across component teams.
- Lead subsystem DFMEAs and quality reviews and ensure appropriate alignment between component DFMEAs and system-level FMEAs.
- Drive design issue resolution through the Problem Resolution Tracking System and coordinate corrective actions across the subsystem.
- Lead resolution of broad, complex, cross-functional technical issues requiring originality, innovation, and sound engineering judgment across multiple disciplines.
- Lead benchmarking of current and emerging heat exchanger, airflow, cooling module, materials, and manufacturing technologies to inform subsystem strategy and future roadmaps.
- Track, analyze, and resolve warranty and field issues, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and subsystem-level read-across.
- Capture lessons learned and drive updates into best practices, standards, engineering documentation, and future subsystem design strategies.
- Influence internal and external stakeholders to adopt new subsystem architectures, requirements, design practices, integration strategies, and continuous improvement actions.
- Champion change by driving standardization, innovation, and read-across across programs, component teams, and suppliers.
- Support special projects and advanced technology initiatives under ETL guidance and help drive innovation aligned to CRFM subsystem strategy.
