The Role:

Join GM’s Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering organization to support the design, integration, validation, and launch of electrical controllers, automotive displays, connectivity, compute, and other electro-mechanical systems for electric and internal combustion engine vehicles.

You will work across electrical and mechanical hardware disciplines with software, manufacturing, validation, and supplier engineering teams to develop robust ECU and vehicle hardware.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Support the design, development, integration, and validation of hardware, including schematics, PCB assemblies, enclosures, and vehicle systems.

  • Develop mechanical components and interfaces such as castings, moldings, stampings, seals, mounts, connectors, and fasteners.

  • Create engineering deliverables, including wiring diagrams, schematics, PCB layouts, bills of material, 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, test procedures, and validation documentation.

  • Apply design calculations, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturability principles.

  • Help integrate harnesses, cables, PCB assemblies, connectors, and enclosures into vehicle and electro-mechanical architectures.

  • Support analysis and test plans, prototyping, proof-of-concept activities, testing, and test-data analysis.

  • Participate in EMC, environmental, thermal, structural, vibration, connectivity, RF, display, and infotainment validation activities.

  • Troubleshoot hardware issues throughout prototype builds, integration, testing, and launch; document findings and recommend next steps.

  • Support hardware release, component and semiconductor selection, requirements traceability, and validation tracking.

  • Identify opportunities to improve cost, mass, reliability, manufacturability, design quality, and vehicle integration.

  • Collaborate with GM teams and Tier 1 suppliers to resolve issues, communicate progress and risks, and deliver project milestones.

  • Contribute to virtualization, continuous improvement, and enterprise hardware design strategies.

  • Follow applicable safety regulations, engineering standards, design practices, and GM policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to work full time, 40 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, analog and digital circuits, PCB layout, or component selection.

  • Knowledge of electrical schematics, wiring, safety standards, rapid prototyping, and validation methods.

  • Experience with 3D CAD, preferably Siemens NX and Teamcenter, 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and ASME Y14.5-2009.

  • Knowledge of solid mechanics, materials, heat transfer, thermal solutions, manufacturing, structural analysis, and vibration.

  • Experience designing PCBAs, ECUs, computers, or other automotive electronics.

  • Familiarity with SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium Designer, OrCAD, Capital, or similar engineering tools.

  • Experience working with electronics manufacturers or Tier 1 suppliers.
