The Team: 

Global Manufacturing Electrical & SDV helps GM build high-quality vehicles to our customers by combining electrical engineering, software, data, testing, and manufacturing expertise. Our team works to improve Electrical First-Time Quality, solve plant-critical challenges, and develop scalable solutions. We bring manufacturing software and hardware design in-house to move faster and enable Vehicle as a Tester (VaaT) and SDV 2.0 capabilities. Interns will gain hands-on experience solving real manufacturing problems and contributing to innovations that will shape the future of vehicle production.

What You’ll Do:   

As a student in the Global Manufacturing Electrical & SDV organization, you will focus on delivering innovative manufacturing solutions that help support electrical first-time quality (E-FTQ) at our plants. You will:

  • Help drive meaningful progress in vehicle electrical systems through hands-on projects and problem-solving.

  • Foster a forward-thinking work culture that embraces change and navigates future organizational and industry challenges. 

  • Build and nurture strategic relationships across various functions including software, manufacturing, and program management to synergize efforts towards future innovations. 

Examples of past intern projects include: 

  • Assist with writing manufacturing software code (using C++) that supports the next generation of vehicle electrical systems.

  • Build easy-to-understand dashboards using Power BI to help manufacturing and engineering teams make data-driven decisions and solve the customer and plants’ biggest problems.

  • Help design innovative electrical tooling and equipment solutions that empower assembly plants to ensure the highest quality vehicle electrical systems and create the standardized work for use of this hardware.

  • Designing and documenting a scalable test setup that provides shared power and network connections for vehicle electronic components.

Required Qualifications:     

  • Pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or technology in one of the following areas: Automotive, Computer/Computer Science/Computer Animation, Construction Management, Civil, Industrial, Industrial Operations, Information Technology, Machine Learning, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Software, Data Scientists, or equivalent field

  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2010

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months

  • Conceptual understanding and/or experience in any of the following:

    • Manufacturing processes

    • Programming or understanding software logic (e.g., Linux, C++)

    • Information Technology systems

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills

  • High level of integrity, self-motivation, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment

Work Arrangement:

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Warren Technical Center on a full-time basis. Some internship roles require up to 25% domestic travel. 

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2026 Student Program
