Autonomous Robotics Center (ARC) – Product Development
Role Overview
The Robotics Hardware Program Engineering Manager is accountable for delivering mechanical content for ARC product programs from concept through launch, ensuring technical execution, schedule integrity, and cross‑functional alignment. This role leads the core engineering execution engine—turning product intent into released, buildable, and producible designs.
The role requires a broad skill set as we build the organization with a focus on working closely with the Kokomo plant, Software team, Validation team, Development team, and deployment organization. It requires creative solutions and processes that are different from typical GM programs. Responsible for evaluation of designs, analysis, development, validation, and implementation. Lead the resolution of design, build and test issues. Review and approve all engineering changes.
Additionally requires being a visible leader to keep the team focused on what makes us better, faster, and more profitable.
This leader ensures programs are executed with discipline, clarity, and technical excellence while navigating complex dependencies across teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.
What You Own
You are accountable for end-to-end program execution for electrical content
1. Mechanical Execution
- Architects & Designers
- Own mechanical architecture, system layout, and design intent
- Ensure designs align with product requirements, safety strategy, and manufacturability
- Design Release Engineers (DREs)
- Lead design release, change management, and configuration control
- Ensure drawings, models, and specifications are complete and production-ready
- AVI
- Design and produce prototype hardware where appropriate
- Interface with VDDV to leverage virtual prototype tools where possible
- Power Electronics (Mechanical Integration)
- Mechanical integration of automation, vision, and power electronics subsystems
- Ensure packaging, thermal, structural, and service considerations are addressed early
- Source or develop and integrate optimal motor, gearbox, and actuator designs
- Automation support Hardware
- Define opportunities and engineer subsystems to enable automation teams to move faster than possible with more customized solutions than we can with outside hardware suppliers.
Leadership & Operating Expectations
- Own program plans, milestones, dependencies, and execution health
- Drive disciplined engineering execution across mechanical teams
- Establish clear technical decision-making
- Proactively manage risk, interfaces, and cross-domain dependencies
- Partner closely with Product Integration, Safety, Manufacturing, and Suppliers

Ideal Background
- 7+ years leading complex engineering programs or products
- Deep experience in mechanical and/or electrical system execution
- Proven ability to lead multi-discipline engineering teams
- Strong program management instincts paired with technical credibility
- Comfortable making decisions in technically dense, high-ambiguity environments
