Work Arrangement : Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham or Oshawa office three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

The Staff System Engineering – Chassis Systems provides technical leadership for chassis motion control (braking, steering, suspension, vehicle dynamics) and acts as a domain‑agnostic architect for GM’s virtual integration stack. You will define and evolve end‑to‑end architectures across embedded ECUs and SIL/CoSim environments, creating reusable patterns, integrating services and models, and ensuring high‑quality execution across programs and domains.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead end‑to‑end architecture for chassis motion control systems across embedded and virtual platforms, including interfaces and ownership boundaries between domain ECUs, infra vECUs, and plant models.

  • Define reusable, domain‑agnostic SIL/CoSim architecture patterns and infrastructure services, orchestrating plant models, behavioral ECUs, infra vECUs, activation flows, diagnostics, and supplier assets into cohesive, testable systems.

  • Own SnA and system‑physics plant‑model infrastructure for L3 CoSim; integrate models into CI/CD (packaging, versioning, automated checks) and drive standardization for reuse across domains.

  • Own service/profile activation infrastructure and infra vECUs for SDV services across domains; ensure NPCR and activation flows work reliably in CoSim/SOLE and are supported by tools and pipelines for current and future programs.

  • Own integration of supplier assets (FMUs, vECUs, C11 libraries, AUTOSAR components) into CoSim and controllers; define requirements/checklists, align interfaces with RestBus/ICDe/GMBSW, and establish minimal acceptance tests and CI/CD integration patterns.

  • Improve CoSim, SIL/HIL, and embedded development processes (requirements, traceability, quality gates) and lead adoption of architectural patterns, modeling guidelines, and release processes for virtual assets.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship; drive cross‑functional roadmaps and alignment with CoSim Architecture, Package/Variant, Pipeline & Execution, Diagnostics/NVM, calibration, DREs, suppliers, and program teams.

  • Support program execution for chassis systems in CoSim/SIL/HIL and in‑vehicle; apply advanced control, optimization, and modeling methods and contribute to IP through novel architectures and solutions.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 10+ years in control systems/software development and/or technical leadership, with strong emphasis on chassis and vehicle dynamics controls.

  • In‑depth knowledge of chassis control and vehicle dynamics (braking, steering, suspension, stability) and calibration to meet objective and subjective performance targets.

  • Strong control systems background applied to embedded systems (e.g., state feedback, adaptive, model predictive control).

  • Production‑grade embedded software experience using C/C++ and model‑based development (MATLAB/Simulink, code generation) to GM standards.

  • Solid understanding of AUTOSAR (Classic/Adaptive), ECU layering, and GMBSW integration patterns.

  • Strong experience with CoSim/SIL/HIL and vECU design/integration (e.g., dSPACE VEOS, ETAS vECU‑Builder), plus plant modeling (Simulink/Modelica or equivalent) and CI/CD practices.

  • Strong understanding of SDV service activation concepts, NPCR, and infra vECU responsibilities in CoSim/SOLE.

  • Hands‑on experience with FMUs/FMI and supplier asset integration, including C11/C++ libraries, Ethernet/osa integration, and VeSCoM/SDV cadence and program gates.

  • Experience with vehicle dynamics modeling/simulation tools (e.g., CarSim) and vehicle communication/measurement tools (e.g., Vehicle SPY, INCA, CANalyzer).

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; proactive, results‑driven, able to work independently and in global, cross‑functional teams, with excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to travel as needed to test sites and partner locations (e.g., Michigan and other global sites).

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge ( Preferred Qualifications)

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Control Systems, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with advanced statistics, signal processing, optimization, system identification, and state estimation for vehicle/chassis systems.

  • Experience with automotive product release/specification processes and integrating virtual assets (FMUs, vECUs) with program gates.

  • Demonstrated leadership in defining virtual integration strategies (plant models, activation, vECUs, supplier assets), architectural guidelines, and playbooks across domains and teams; strong presentation and influence skills at staff/architect level.
