The Role
Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) Sub-component Design and Release Engineer is a key position responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and releasing sub-components for GM vehicle programs. This is an engineering position within the Product Development Team in the Electrical SMT. The PSDS Sub-component DRE will interface with engineers from many groups to integrate components and systems within the vehicle architecture. The position entails working closely with vehicle program teams, other Product Development engineering groups such as interiors and body, purchasing, marketing, validation, and manufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Support design, development, integration, and release of PSDS sub-components, which may include Specialty Cables, Dress Covers, Grommets, Channels, T-harnesses, Clips, Ring Terminals, Coverings, and other future sub-components within PSDS scope
- Create initial parts lists and support complexity studies for assigned sub-components
- Maintain consistency of effort for the program by understanding PSDS Statement of Requirements, program timing, issues, and plans, and managing details when changes are required
- Manage supplier efforts within the engineering factory
- Identify and schedule training needs with manager approval
- Participate in interface tradeoffs and resolve integration issues
- Manage cost, quality, mass, and timing for assigned sub-components, including content and program changes
- Support pre-production build events including both physical and virtual builds
- Ensure the design, development, and release of assigned sub-components are integrated within the vehicle architecture with quality
- Lead or assist benchmarking analysis to support innovation, tradeoff, or cost/benefit analysis
- Lead or assist peer reviews and assembly plant launch and remediation support
- Perform complex design analysis, develop engineering designs including subsystems, and implement engineering changes
- Specify and balance system and component requirements
- Plan and implement test and/or development programs
- Release parts and subsystems for production and investigate Directed Buy Strategies
- Interface with Technical Specialists, program teams, validation, manufacturing, and suppliers to support design direction and issue resolution
- Support standardization, commonization, and complexity reduction efforts across sub-components
- Stay current on new technology, competitive products, and industry direction related to PSDS sub-components
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience with PSDS, sub-components, connectors, wire, harness packaging, or related component design/release experience preferred
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

- Master’s Degree in relevant Engineering Field
- Preferred Siemens NX/Teamcenter experience
