Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office four times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role

In this role, you will manage a team of 10+ engineers who perform ergonomic virtual assessments and validate ergonomic standards and requirements for all global product programs across General Motors. You will be part of the Technical Center India (TCI) ME Ergonomics team. This is a key role interfacing with both regional and global teams.

The team members will execute, analyze, and deliver ergonomic simulations with the desired quality and on-time delivery (OTD). They are required to learn and use GM’s digital human modeling tools, and leverage lessons learned from other new product programs and manufacturing plants to support decision-making. The role requires the ability to assimilate data from multiple sources and apply both practical and technical problem-solving techniques. Decisions are made within the framework of general practices, policies, and procedures.

This position is based at GM Technical Center India, Bengaluru.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish bench strength by recruiting, training, and developing engineers to meet business objectives, while ensuring diversity and inclusion

  • Drive a safety culture by adhering to GM Global Workplace Safety Systems

  • Contribute to strategic 3–5-year planning and develop the team from both organizational and technical perspectives

  • Work with leadership to set and drive annual business objectives; set individual and team priorities, and regularly review and approve team members’ work

  • Ensure team deliverables are executed on time and that leadership is informed of status and any issues

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives by utilizing feedback and metrics (quality, delivery rate, etc.) to reduce waste and improve productivity

  • Establish performance goals, conduct reviews, coach and mentor team members, and provide candid and constructive feedback

  • Manage team workload, support resource planning, and forecast and track budgets

  • Seek and review feedback from launch sites and supported plants through local ME teams on workshare activities

  • Ensure compliance with all GM policies and procedures

  • Support team members in analyzing and resolving complex manufacturing problems

  • Stay updated on new technologies and competitive products

  • Collaborate with GM and external technical communities to develop technology roadmap solutions

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.

  • 15+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering (OEM or Tier 1 supplier).

  • Hands-on experience in ergonomic assessments/simulations and manufacturing engineering applications preferred.

  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, equipment, facilities, materials, and operations.

  • Hands-on experience with CAD, Teamcenter, and other Manufacturing Engineering tools.

  • Hands-on experience with VisMockup, Process Simulate, Vis Jack, or Classic Jack for 3D human modeling simulations (advanced computer skills preferred).

  • Process knowledge of vehicle assembly

  • Knowledge of collaboration, data management, and analytics tools such as SharePoint and Power BI.

  • Working knowledge of Work Standardization and Workplace Safety Systems.

  • Working knowledge of Operational Excellence (OpEx) concepts

  • Strong understanding of launch timelines/processes, Quality Chain, and DFMEA-PFMEA

  • Knowledge of OpEx tools, Six Sigma, and Red X methodologies

  • Proficiency in Agile project management methodologies

  • Knowledge of AI/ML applications in manufacturing, including predictive analytics, process optimization, and quality analytics (e.g., defect prediction)

  • Demonstrated understanding of vehicle anatomy

  • Knowledge of General Assembly processes

  • Ability to organize, plan, and execute manufacturing and/or ergonomic projects

  • Knowledge of VisMockup/NX for 3D human modeling simulations

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to collaborate across organizational levels

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts

  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders

  • Exposure to programming or software customization is an added advantage

  • Proven skills in Agile project management

  • Ability to work with cross-cultural, multidisciplinary, and remote teams to achieve functional goals, including AI-led transformation initiatives

  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and execute projects with strong attention to detail, leveraging data-driven decision-making

  • Ability to effectively lead meetings and workshops, including driving adoption of AI tools and data-centric practices

  • Ability to interpret data and translate analytics outputs into actionable improvements

  • Willingness to travel across regions as required.
