As the Maintenance Group Leader, you will be responsible for a small to medium group of maintenance employees. You will manage the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities aligned with standard GM maintenance systems in addition to the following responsibilities

As the Maintenance Group Leader, you will be responsible for a small to medium group of maintenance employees. You will manage the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities aligned with standard GM maintenance systems in addition to the following responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and develop a team of maintenance employees (Electricians & IMMs) supporting plant production operations.

  • Coordinate multiple maintenance operations while making sound decisions within established policies and practices.

  • Optimize resources to meet business and production objectives.

  • Enforce strict safety standards , championing a zero-incident culture and full compliance with safety policies and regulations.

  • Administer labor relations as required, working effectively within a unionized environment.

  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with changing demands and tight timelines.

  • Proactively identify and implement solutions to operational and technical issues.

  • Oversee preventive maintenance (PM) and troubleshooting of equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime.

  • Coordinate maintenance, tooling, and engineering schedules within your area of responsibility.

  • Support throughput and uptime initiatives through PM completion and process improvements (e.g., TIP).

  • Lead and model GMS principles within the maintenance organization.

  • Take charge during major equipment breakdowns , leading cross-functional activities to restore operations safely and quickly.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Mechatronic Engineer or other related Engineering field/experience.

  • Minimum 1 year of direct team supervisory experience or at least 6 months as an internal GM per diem/Co‑Op group leader.

  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic blueprints.

  • Proven experience solving complex problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience managing conflict and making clear decisions.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading people, including addressing performance concerns.

  • Strong analytical ability to diagnose and solve complex technical and operational issues.

  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Word, email, basic systems use).

  • Shift flexibility: Availability to work on rotating shifts (4x3 and 5x2 schedule).

  • Availability to regularly work weekends to meet production demands (approximately two weekends per month).

  • English proficiency: Intermediate conversational level, with ability to express complete technical ideas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Maximo or similar computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

  • High level of integrity, self-direction, and comfort working with ambiguity.

  • Experience collaborating across multiple functions (production, engineering, tooling, etc.) in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and resourcefulness – willing to ask questions, challenge the status quo, and drive improvements.

Basic Required Technical Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of Fanuc robots for part loading, unloading, and transfer operations.

  • Basic troubleshooting of Fanuc teach pendants, including servo alarms, communication faults, and stop conditions.

  • Knowledge of presence sensors and their operation.

  • Basic knowledge of Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs for signal verification, input/output monitoring, and initial fault diagnosis.

  • Ability to read and interpret alarms displayed on HMIs for machining equipment and automated stations.

  • Basic knowledge of spindles, motors, servo motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and axis drives.

  • Maintenance of pneumatic and hydraulic systems used for clamping, tool changing, and device actuation.

  • Knowledge of centralized lubrication systems and coolant/cooling control systems.

  • Basic experience with gear machining equipment such as hobbing, shaping, shaving, grinding, or finishing stations.

  • Inspection of tooling conditions, clamps, fixtures, actuators, and poka-yoke devices in machining cells.

  • Ability to identify failures caused by mechanical wear, misalignment, vibration, air or oil leaks, and overheating.

  • Basic knowledge of conveyors, indexing tables, transfer systems, and material handling equipment between operations.

  • Experience supporting the maintenance of pumps, gearboxes, belts, chains, bearings, and couplings.

  • Basic knowledge of process quality control related to gear manufacturing, including burrs, surface finish, dimensional compliance, and traceability.

  • Ability to prioritize failures impacting safety, scrap, downtime, and production performance.
