描述

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

AVD Steering Design Release Engineer

Responsible for definition of requirements, design, analysis, development and control of complex subsystem where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment. Exercise independent judgment, but receives general direction from supervisor. Experience with multiple cycles of Vehicle Development Process within area of responsibility.

  • Design, engineer, and develop high quality steering components and devise system math solutions from a clean sheet of paper to a detailed and balanced solution, on time and with excellence, and in satisfaction of performance, cost, mass, investment, and quality expectations, requirements, and standards.
  • Collaboration with other Chassis Designing Engineers, Tech Specialist’s, ETL’s as well as other key areas of the organization (CAE, Vehicle Architecture, Cost Estimating, Performance Integration, Manufacturing, Service Engineering, other commodities (Body, HVAC, Powertrain, etc.) to creatively and jointly develop the optimal overall vehicle solution.
  • Utilize Unigraphics (NX) three-dimensional (3D) computer aided design (CAD) system and work in the TeamCenter environment to design steering components.
  • Creation of "readiness assessments" prior to significant program gates, to summarize the status and key issues.
  • Support the development of SOR (system of requirements), CTS (component technical specification) and SSTS (subsystem technical specifications) for subsystem
  • Supports/Leads technical review
  • Performs appropriate studies/alternatives, and recommends program direction based on cost, mass, timing
  • Perform steering articulation studies, engineer, and design/package steering components to ensure that minimum clearance requirements are met and that components will not interfere with one another during full suspension and steering travel.
  • Perform geometric dimension and tolerancing (GD& T) stack up studies and apply GD& T techniques to ensure that all parts will fit, form, and function when components are manufactured and assembled.
  • Study manufacturing feasibility, design, and development of steering components that can be manufactured with minimized complexity.
  • Study serviceability and design steering components with easy tool access.
  • Supports/Leads PDT (product development team) for component/subsystems (e.g. timing, parts list, DFM)
  • Validates design using analytical tools including finite element, modal, virtual builds and others at component level
  • Collaboration with the downstream Designing Engineer to allow them to successfully source and validate components and systems for production.
  • Releases component/subsystem to meet system requirements
  • Participate in Vehicle Compartment Integration Team (VCIT) meetings to resolve packaging issues and use NX Motion to articulate steering components for packaging studies.
  • Work with engineers responsible for interfacing systems, subsystems, and components to ensure that steering components will fit, form, and function with other components as a whole vehicle.
  • Collaborate with Warranty Engineers to improve architecture quality.
  • Perform appropriate studies and alternatives, such as benchmarking competitor original equipment manufacturer (OEM) steering systems and components, recommend program direction based on cost, mass, and timing, and brainstorm ideas that will reduce cost and mass.
  • Stays abreast of new technology
  • Translates lessons learned into best practices
  • Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
