This position follows a hybrid work model, with in-person attendance required 3x per week in Indaiatuba, SP

The Energy Development Engineer is a key technical contributor within Vehicle Performance / Energy Development, responsible for defining, developing, integrating, and delivering vehicle energy performance solutions across multiple programs and cross-functional interfaces.

This role requires a systems and integration mindset and strong technical judgment to translate vehicle- and subsystem-level requirements into robust engineering actions, balancing performance, fuel economy / energy efficiency, program timing, technical risk, and execution quality. The successful candidate is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, lead problem solving on significant matters, and influence decisions across engineering teams through technical credibility, data, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead energy development activities for assigned vehicle programs, ensuring robust technical definition, integration, and delivery of energy-related targets and actions across the program lifecycle.

  • Develop system-level understanding of vehicle energy performance drivers and translate them into executable engineering workstreams across propulsion, calibration, software, testing, validation, and vehicle integration.

  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex and non-standard technical issues affecting fuel economy, energy efficiency, drivability interfaces, and related vehicle performance outcomes.

  • Own cross-functional alignment of technical assumptions, target definitions, tradeoffs, risks, and recovery actions needed to support program objectives.

  • Use data, analysis, engineering judgment, and structured problem solving to define options, recommend solutions, and drive decisions on significant matters.

  • Coordinate with calibration, software, propulsion, validation, program execution, and supporting functions to ensure integrated and timely delivery.

  • Develop and present technical status, recommendations, and decision points to leadership and key stakeholders with clarity and credibility.

  • Anticipate issues, escalate when needed, and influence resolution in situations where agreement may be difficult due to competing priorities or differing technical views.

  • Improve internal processes, tools, methods, and technical routines that strengthen energy development execution, target robustness, and cross-functional efficiency.

  • Serve as a technical resource for less experienced engineers and provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship on difficult technical issues.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.

  • Active CREA registration (mandatory).

  • Solid experience in vehicle energy development , vehicle performance , propulsion systems , or closely related automotive engineering areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance and make sound technical judgments on significant engineering matters.

  • Strong systems engineering and integration capability, including the ability to connect subsystem behavior to vehicle-level outcomes.

  • Experience working across multiple engineering functions to solve complex technical problems and deliver time-sensitive program results.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to structure ambiguous issues and drive practical solutions.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical recommendations to cross-functional and leadership audiences.

  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across stakeholders with different perspectives.

  • Working knowledge of vehicle development processes, test and validation activities, and engineering deliverable management.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, integrity, accountability, and GM behaviors in daily work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in engine calibration or close interaction with calibration development teams.

  • Software knowledge relevant to vehicle controls, embedded functions, diagnostics, data analysis, or engineering toolchains.

  • Experience with hybrid, electrified, or energy management-related systems.

  • Familiarity with vehicle testing, data acquisition, post-processing, and technical issue investigation in vehicle and test environments.

  • Experience supporting program reviews, technical status reporting, and cross-functional decision forums.

  • Ability to develop new methods, frameworks, or processes that improve engineering execution and technical robustness.
