The Role

The Business Manager – Global Supply Chain leads plant-level supply chain and business performance, supporting Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) to deliver safe, high-quality, on-time, and cost-effective production. This role is a key partner in launch and pilot activities, owning material readiness and ensuring cross-functional alignment to meet customer, quality, delivery, and financial targets. The position builds strong working relationships with operations, engineering, GPSC, quality, and union partners, while maintaining awareness of all KPI metrics, communicating department goals, and leveraging resources to resolve issues. The Business Manager fosters a stable, continuously improving work environment, consistently administers National and Local UAW agreements, and implements systems to prevent the recurrence of known issues.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes across multiple departments, driving accountability, stability, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure effective utilization of personnel, material, and equipment to meet production objectives.

  • Achieve production schedules, cost targets, and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing and synchronous production principles, with emphasis on reducing variation, controlling costs, and improving productivity.

  • Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) including supplier schedule attainment, inventory health, material availability, and launch readiness; develop and execute action plans to close gaps.

  • Assess complex supply chain, material, and capacity constraints; lead cross-functional teams to resolution while minimizing impacts to vehicle production and premium freight.

  • Support launch and pilot events by ensuring material readiness, validating new or changed processes, and coordinating closely with Engineering, GPSC, Quality, and Operations on timing and risk mitigation.

  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals, and leverage resources to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.

  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives related to safety, ergonomics, health, and housekeeping.

  • Participate in the selection, training, development, and evaluation of both salaried and hourly employees; build and sustain highly effective teams.

  • Ensure employees receive adequate Job Instruction Training (JIT) and are trained to standardized work methods.

  • Coach, teach, counsel, and mentor Group Leaders in leadership, operational execution, safety, quality, and people development.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with employees, union partners, and management; understand and consistently administer National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the UAW.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with Plant and Global Supply Chain leadership, providing concise, data-driven summaries of issues, recovery plans, risks, and business impacts.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 3+ years of experience in vehicle and/or propulsion manufacturing, with a strong focus on Quality Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, or Operations leadership.

  • Proven experience supporting or leading launch execution in a manufacturing environment.

  • Deep knowledge of vehicle/propulsion manufacturing processes and plant operations.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with the GM Quality System, GMS BIQ principles, and Global Quality Manual (or equivalent structured quality systems).

  • Strong managerial courage with the ability to provide direct, honest, and constructive feedback to Plant Staffs and Executive Leadership in a professional manner.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.

  • High level of analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and data-driven decision making.

  • Proficiency with standard business tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, reporting/analysis tools).

  • Must be able to work on a rotating/flexible shift (1st, 2nd or 3rd), as well as overtime and weekends, as needed.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience in vehicle and/or propulsion manufacturing, with a strong focus on Quality Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, or Operations leadership.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Operations Management, Business, or related technical field.

  • Prior experience in Global Supply Chain (GSC) at General Motors, with familiarity with GSC processes, systems, and plant interfaces.

  • Experience in a Quality Operations Manager/Business Manager or Plant Quality leadership role.

  • Formal training or certification in quality methodologies (e.g., Red X, DFSS, Lean/Six Sigma, or similar).

  • Experience leading or auditing against BIQ levels, ISO/IATF or other external quality standards.

  • Familiarity with GM-specific quality, launch, and manufacturing systems and tools.
