Work Arrangement:

Onsite: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Oshawa Elevation Centre (OEC) five times per week at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role:

Our Ops Labs team is looking for a motivated co-op student to support the digitization and improvement of equipment records, inspections, and maintenance-related workflows across a broad range of operational and technical equipment.

In this role, you will help move paper-based and manual tracking processes into structured digital systems, primarily using IBM Maximo, an enterprise asset and maintenance management system used to track equipment, inspections, preventive maintenance, and work orders. You will also support work connected to GEETS, a GM tool used for certain lab and measurement equipment records such as instrument registration, calibration, and equipment assignment tracking.

You will work with the team to review current processes, define the right system of record for different types of information, and help build practical workflows that improve consistency, traceability, and ease of use for equipment owners and lab users. The scope of this role may include support for equipment such as environmental chambers, load frames, garage equipment, EV chargers, HVAC and ventilation systems, machine shop equipment, and other operational assets used across Canadian Engineering Operations.

The deliverables from this role will also support Workplace System objectives by helping create more standardized processes, clearer ownership, stronger maintenance visibility, and more reliable digital records across the operation.

This position is a strong fit for someone who enjoys technical problem solving, process improvement, and hands-on coordination across systems, documentation, equipment owners, and support teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review existing control sheets, logs, and tracking records to determine which information should be managed in Maximo, GEETS, or other test and documentation systems.

  • Create and update asset, location, meter, preventive maintenance, and inspection configurations in Maximo for prioritized operational, facility, and technical equipment.

  • Support the setup, confirmation, or refinement of GEETS records for applicable lab and measurement equipment, including calibration and equipment assignment information where appropriate.

  • Help digitize recurring equipment checks, inspections, and maintenance workflows for assets such as environmental chambers, load frames, garage equipment, EV chargers, HVAC and ventilation equipment, and machine shop equipment.

  • Coordinate with equipment owners, equipment administrators, stakeholders, and maintenance trades to gather information, confirm requirements, and support the rollout of improved digital processes.

  • Develop mapping documentation that clearly defines the purpose of each existing form, its suitability for digitization, and its future system of record.

  • Pilot and document simple Maximo and GEETS workflows, including entering inspections, completing preventive maintenance tasks, and recording equipment status or usage where applicable.

  • Create clear work instructions and handover material to support adoption of new digital workflows by users and support teams, while reinforcing Workplace Safety System expectations around standard work and process discipline.

  • Capture lessons learned and provide recommendations on which additional paper forms should be digitized and which should remain as supporting technical documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology, Maintenance Engineering, Stationary Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automotive, Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.

  • Eligible to work full-time hours (40 hours per week) in Canada for an 8-month co-op term (consecutive semesters)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in lab operations, equipment management, maintenance systems, digital workflow improvement, or process standardization.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when working with technical records, equipment data, and process documentation.

  • Ability to analyze information, classify data, and apply consistent logic across multiple systems, forms, and workflows.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document processes clearly and work effectively with cross-functional team members.

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with asset management, preventive maintenance, calibration, quality systems, or equipment documentation processes.

  • Experience working with structured data, databases, or enterprise systems such as Maximo, SAP, GEETS, or similar tools.

  • Experience creating work instructions, process maps, or other standard documentation.

  • Ability to work independently, learn new systems quickly, and manage multiple tasks with a high level of ownership.

  • Experience with EcoCar or SAE Projects

  • Exposure to laboratory, manufacturing, validation, facility, or engineering environments is considered an asset.

The monthly salary range for this role is $4,264.00 to $4784.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
