The Role
As a General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering Execution Zone Engineer, you will lead the development, launch, and optimization of manufacturing processes within General Assembly and Final Assembly. You will be responsible for implementing automation, tooling, and equipment solutions that support new vehicle programs, model changes, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring safety, quality, and operational performance.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Lead manufacturing engineering activities for assigned General Assembly/Final Assembly zones supporting new product launches, model changes, and production operations.
- Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes, automation systems, equipment, tooling, conveyors, and workstation designs.
- Manage equipment and tooling projects from concept through procurement, installation, validation, and production launch.
- Serve as the primary engineering contact for assigned production areas, ensuring launch milestones, readiness targets, and program timelines are achieved.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and suppliers to resolve manufacturing challenges and drive successful program execution.
- Provide technical leadership to equipment suppliers and integrators throughout design, build, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Support build events, launch activities, process validation, PFMEA development, and issue resolution to ensure manufacturing readiness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, ergonomics, material flow, and cost reduction.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relative experience.
- 2+ years of manufacturing, process, industrial, or production engineering experience.
- Experience supporting manufacturing equipment, tooling, automation systems, or assembly processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and solve complex technical problems independently.
- Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Flexibility to support extensive travel (up to 75%), including during critical launch periods, and availability to work off-shift hours, weekends, holidays, and other non-standard schedules as business needs require.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience supporting General Assembly, Final Assembly, or other automotive manufacturing operations.
- Experience with automation, robotics, conveyors, fastening systems, PLCs, or industrial controls.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Red X, or similar problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience managing equipment installations, manufacturing launches, and production readiness activities.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and manufacturing layouts.
- Knowledge of PFMEA, process validation, and manufacturing risk assessment methodologies.
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements and manufacturing safety standards.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing operations in a high-volume production environment.
