描述

The Role

The Senior Systems Engineer – Serial Data Calibration serves as the technical owner and coordination point for serial-data communications and diagnostics calibration across propulsion control systems. In this role, you will translate vehicle and system intent into repeatable calibration practices, guide calibration engineers, and improve the tools, workflows, documentation, and technical standards that support high-quality product releases.

You will work across current vehicle electrical architectures and next-generation software-defined vehicle systems while partnering with calibration, controls, software, systems safety, validation, and program teams. This role is an opportunity to shape technical direction, strengthen engineering best practices, and help deliver dependable vehicle features to customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary technical contact for serial-data calibration across engine, transmission, and powertrain control modules, as well as internal and external partner organizations.

  • Provide technical direction for communication and diagnostics calibration execution, configuration accuracy, and consistent application of standard procedures.

  • Apply strong working knowledge of vehicle Controller Area Network and Local Interconnect Network communications across current and emerging electrical architectures.

  • Review calibration guides, software source code, requirements, design intent, and technical documentation to understand what calibrations do, why they exist, and where they apply.

  • Analyze calibration behavior and test results, identify root causes, and support the resolution of anomalies and product issues.

  • Review calibration and validation data, interpret technical results, and recommend calibration adjustments when needed.

  • Partner with System Safety and cross-functional stakeholders to balance technical intent, system requirements, constraints, and program needs.

  • Break complex calibration behavior into understandable functional components and communicate technical conclusions clearly.

  • Create and improve tools, workflows, procedures, and training that increase repeatability and reduce manual effort for calibration engineers.

  • Maintain authoritative Feature-to-Frame configuration documentation and support the upkeep and migration of the Master Calibration Tool to CalCheck.

  • Support Diagnostics Typing Sheets, calibration reviews, technical training, issue tracking, product health activities, and warranty burn-down actions.

  • Lead or facilitate serial-data technical reviews and communications-focused communities of practice.

  • Manage and prioritize serial-data calibration workload while supporting program milestones, launches, and issue resolution.

  • Help define standard work for new technologies, train calibration engineers, lead requirements-development activities, and drive complex corrective actions to closure.

  • Promote continuous improvement by challenging unnecessary complexity and incorporating relevant industry practices and technologies.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 5 or more years of experience in propulsion-system calibration, controls, vehicle communications, diagnostics calibration, or a related technical field.

  • Strong understanding of calibration execution, calibration strategy, and controls-system functionality.

  • Working knowledge of vehicle network communications, including Controller Area Network and Local Interconnect Network.

  • Experience analyzing empirical data, calibration behavior, validation results, or vehicle test data to identify root causes and recommend solutions.

  • Ability to interpret technical requirements, software behavior, source code, design intent, calibration guides, and system documentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, develop action plans, and drive cross-functional issues to closure.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to varied audiences.

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional partners and global stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving ability, including independent judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to prioritize work and provide technical direction with limited managerial direction.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

  • Ability to legally operate a vehicle in North America in accordance with GM Safe Driving rules and regulations.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Engineering.

  • 8 or more years of experience in propulsion calibration, controls, serial-data communications, diagnostics, or a related area.

  • Experience with calibration and controls tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, INCA, ETAS, CalCheck, or similar platforms.

  • Experience with Feature-to-Frame configuration, diagnostics typing documentation, master calibration, or calibration-tool development.

  • Experience supporting current vehicle electrical architectures and software-defined vehicle systems.
