- Analyze 1968.2(j)(1) and 1971.1(l)(1) log files to confirm that diagnostic systems properly detect, store, and report faults, and that MIL/reduced propulsion events are appropriate and robust.
- Compile and communicate PVET results to calibration teams, diagnostic strategists, PVET lead, and other stakeholders, driving closure of issues identified during testing.
Vehicle Testing and Coordination
- Request and coordinate 1968.2(j)(1) and 1971.1(l)(1) and verification vehicles required for PVET and J1699 testing; monitor vehicle acquisition status and address roadblocks with cross-functional partners.
- Work cross-functionally with other Engineering and Quality organizations to obtain vehicles for testing.
- Submit verification fleet data-dump summaries to diagnostic strategists and calibration owners, highlighting trends, failure modes, and potential compliance or customer-impact risks.
- Order and Maintain Verification Vehicles. Ensure vehicles maintain Salable status.
- Keep Vehicle fleet updated to latest Vescom releases to ensure testing of latest software and calibration releases.
- Create PRTS as needed on vehicle related issues.
Tools, Data, and Process Ownership
- Act as back-up owner for the 1968.2(j)(1) and 1971.1(l)(1) OBD Summary macro and related PVET/OBD summary tools; support updates, maintenance, and documentation so they remain current and usable across programs.
- Ensure test data results, scripts, macros, and documentation are stored in approved business record locations.
- Leverage PRN data mining and telemetry/verification data to identify emerging diagnostic or hardware issues early and recommend mitigation actions.
- Ensure all verification vehicles are equipped with onboard data recorders.
- Ensure Data Dumps are functioning correctly on verification vehicles and are being taken on a regular basis.
J1699-3, J1699-5 and OBD Compliance Leadership
- Lead J1699-3 and J1699‑5 test execution for ICE and EV programs, ensuring all required tests are executed on time and to process, with high-fidelity documentation.
- Creates PRTS’s or compliance assessment for any deviations or issues discovered.
- Develop and maintain J1699 test plans for upcoming model years, aligning content and timing with calibration, software, and certification milestones.
- Act as a technical contact for J1699-related questions, ensuring that calibration, software, and PVET teams understand test outcomes and required corrective actions.
- Proactively communicate with cross-functional partners about any issues discovered when performing J1699-3 and J1699-5 testing.
- Provide feedback to the J1699 SAE committee regarding any issues or requirements needed to produce an effective industry tool.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate issues and risks cross‑functionally, including OBD GSSLT, Diagnostic strategists, TRBs, PVET Lead, and vehicle program teams, ensuring timely escalation and alignment on resolution plans.
- Communicate with Lead Calibration Engineers to ensure proper verification vehicles and content are being ordered each model year.
- Work with Leadership to approve Salable verification vehicles through the Pre-GVBE process.
- Partner closely with engine and transmission calibration teams, software, system safety, certification, and lab/garage resources to ensure PVET, J1699 and Verification Vehicle test needs are understood and met.
- Represent PVET/OBD interests in relevant forums (e.g., diagnostic workgroups, PVET meetings, cross-functional reviews) and drive actions to closure.
- Share best practices, lessons learned, and standard work improvements that enhance PVET efficiency, diagnostic robustness, and first-time quality.
Safety, Quality, and Compliance
- Ensure all PVET and J1699 testing complies with GM safety requirements, local site procedures, and corporate training expectations; actively identify and address safety concerns in vehicles, tests, and workplaces.
- Support achievement of organizational goals related to zero MIL and zero reduced propulsion events by ensuring diagnostic robustness and early issue detection through PVET testing and verification vehicles and field data.
- Keep up to date with Company Vehicle Operations requirements. Maintain an understanding of proper driver license requirements. Ensure drivers of Verification fleet meet all requirements to drive General Motors Vehicles both on and off property.
