Position Summary
The Level 7 PPCO AVD PCMA and Vendor Tooling Supervisor is a working supervisor role responsible for both direct program support and people leadership within Architecture Vehicle Development. This role personally owns meaningful program cost management and vendor tooling responsibilities while also leading a team that delivers timely, accurate, decision-ready material cost and tooling insights across key program milestones (typically pre-AFI through PFI). The position balances hands-on execution, cross-functional problem solving, and process improvement with leadership responsibilities including prioritization, coaching, resource alignment, and team development. The leader is expected to operate as both an active contributor on important business deliverables and a Level 7 People Leader who builds a high-performing team and drives strong operational results.
We are looking for a highly motivated, results driven, organized self-starter with strong managerial, finance and technical skills.
Key Responsibilities
Program cost management and vendor tooling leadership
- Serve as a working supervisor by directly owning selected PPCO AVD PCMA and Vendor Tooling responsibilities for future vehicle and propulsion programs while leading team execution and ensuring on-time delivery aligned to defined program milestones and engagement points.
- Provide timely and accurate average material cost and vendor tooling perspectives to support program profitability, sourcing decisions, and target-setting discussions.
- Oversee development of robust initial program framing and status positions, with clear linkage to affordability, donor-to-target discussions, and early decision making.
- Ensure the team supports both material cost and tooling workstreams with the right level of depth based on business impact, risk, and timing.
Vendor tooling strategy and execution
- Lead vendor tooling estimating, templated tooling data governance, and process standardization to improve estimate quality, execution consistency, and speed.
- Drive efficiency projects that simplify the vendor tooling process, improve handoffs, and enable capacity gains across the team.
- Oversee use and enhancement of PIM VTAT and related tooling datasets so vendor tooling inputs better reflect current program execution and recent sourcing data.
- Support variety of manufacturing, business case and horizon studies providing appropriate detail.
Cross-functional program support
- Act as both team leader and active program partner, working closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Cost Engineering, program teams, and finance stakeholders to provide clear, actionable cost and tooling guidance through to support program milestones (typically through PFI).
- Reinforce a PPCO Depth / Breadth operating model that focuses deepest expertise on the highest-impact components while using systems, analytics, and standard work to maintain broader program cost visibility.
- Translate complex cost and tooling information into concise recommendations for multiple audiences, including senior internal partners who may require persuasion and alignment support.
- Establish clear intake, prioritization, and coordination mechanisms for vendor tooling work, including an effective “air traffic controller” model for requests as needed.
Process improvement, analytics, and tools
- Improve and formalize standard work for recurring PCMA and vendor tooling processes so work is scalable, repeatable, and better documented.
- Sponsor continuous improvement efforts that reduce cycle time, eliminate rework, improve data quality, and create measurable stakeholder value.
People leadership
- Lead a team within a larger PPCO function while also carrying direct program responsibilities, setting priorities, allocating resources, coaching employees, and driving consistent execution against team objectives.
- Build team capability through coaching, development planning, hiring decisions, and visible recognition of growth and performance.
- Foster an inclusive, accountable team environment where employees are encouraged to share ideas, discuss development needs, and raise concerns safely.
- Model GM behaviors by moving with urgency, using sound judgment, collaborating effectively, speaking candidly about risks, and holding suppliers and partners to GM’s ethical standards.
Expected Outcomes
- On-time, high-quality delivery of AVD PCMA and vendor tooling support at defined program milestones through both direct individual contribution and effective team leadership.
- Improved vendor tooling estimate quality, cleaner standard work, and stronger decision support for program teams and purchasing.
- Earlier PPCO engagement and better-informed cost and tooling decisions closer to the front end of development.
- Measurable efficiency gains, better stakeholder feedback, and stronger organizational leverage through improved tools, analytics, and team structure.
