Descrição

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

AVD Mount Systems DRE

The AVD Mount Systems DRE serves as a Design Release Engineer during the Advanced Vehicle Development (AVD) phase for passenger vehicles and light trucks. This role is responsible for developing mounting systems for applications, including engine, transmission, electric drive unit, compressor, body, and cradle mounts, as applicable.

The DRE leads mount system development from initial vehicle architecture and concept design through cost estimation, structural analysis (FEA), performance assessment, and provides a sourcing ready design. Candidates must be able to review and evaluate designs and packaging within Teamcenter and work closely with designers and cross-functional teams to develop manufacturing-feasible solutions.

During the early phases of vehicle development, the DRE is responsible for guiding the team toward a balanced mount system design that optimizes cost, mass, manufacturability, assembly, durability, and vehicle performance. This role requires strong technical judgment, collaboration skills, and the ability to drive design decisions in a fast-paced advanced development environment.

What You'll Do

  • Creation (engineering) of Mount System solutions for new vehicle programs.
  • Start with a “clean sheet of paper” and engineer system solutions to a detailed and balanced level.
  • Includes significant physical integration (packaging) and functional integration work, as well as performance assessments, negotiating with competing components and requirements.
  • Perform competitive benchmarking of performance, cost, mass, etc.
  • Perform detailed investigation of the Health of the Parent (previous program) to make sure all past issues are addressed in new design
  • Daily collaboration with other Chassis Engineers as well as other key areas of the organization (Designer, CAE, Design Studio, Vehicle Architecture, Purchasing, Cost Estimating, Performance Integration, Manufacturing, Service Engineering, other commodities such as Body, Powertrain, Electrical, etc.) to creatively and jointly develop the overall optimal solution for the vehicle.
  • Work with Designer to ensure CAD data in Unigraphics and TeamCenter is updated regularly (some may be done by this engineering candidate, if capable)
  • Development and refinement of the solution imperatives (pc cost, tooling, mass, quality, performance, etc.) of the designs, reporting out to leadership as required.
  • May include some early physical "mock-up" or hardware test work with 3-D printed parts or other simulated hardware.
  • Lead DFSS or other projects to refine customer requirements and design robustness.
  • Lead Subsystem DFMEA
  • Collaboration with the downstream Design Release Engineer to allow them to successfully source and validate the components and systems for production.
  • Collaboration with component technical specialists to ensure GM component and system strategy is correctly implemented on new programs.
  • Collaboration with CAE engineers to assess system performance to requirements, and iterate to an optimum design.
  • Creation and leading of detailed technical Peer Reviews to ensure Best Practices and past lessons learned are implemented on new programs.
  • Creation of "readiness assessments" prior to significant program gates, to summarize the status and key issues.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (or extensive equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 3 years experience in mount system product engineering and/or analysis.
  • Ability to interrogate Unigraphics CAD data to review designs.
  • Ability to work in TeamCenter.
  • Ability to calmly work in an early and rapidly evolving design environment with significant ambiguity and constant change.
  • Ability to work well with others to resolve issues, and elevate issues when appropriate.
  • Ability to work proactively and manage projects to long-term deliverables without daily guidance or check-ins

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge

  • 5+ years experience in mount system product engineering
  • Knowledge of mount industry trends and new technology
  • Experience working in very early vehicle design and development.
  • Ability to create UG CAD sketches to develop ideas for a Designer, when necessary.
  • DFSS Green or Black belt certification.
  • Masters degree in Engineering.
