Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid on SWING SHIFT (3PM - 12MN) . This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Philippines office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business. 

The Role

This role has the responsibility to lead the Tax Compliance Organization based in Global Business Solutions-Manila (GBS-Manila). The Tax Compliance team’s responsibilities include but not limited to managing tax accounting (journal entries, accounts reconciliation) and tax return filing activities and supporting internal and external audits.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the indirect tax and compliance function in accordance with tax principles applied in countries in-scope to optimize minimal scrutiny and audit assessments from jurisdictional reviews of processes and filings.
  • Timely and quality review and submission of tax returns including but not limited to VAT / GST, Corporate Income Tax, Property Tax, and various annual reports.
  • Responsible for managing the execution of monthly / quarterly / annual tax closing and reporting as per US GAAP and ensuring timely and accurate submission of associate journal entries and accounts reconciliation
  • Review and Approve Journal Entries and Account Reconciliations - High Risk Processes Reviewer, Approver, and 1st level Escalations
  • Maintain complete and current Tax department policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with GM accounting policies and procedures, internal controls, and external regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Lead and facilitate audits with direct implementation of controls, when applicable, on a post audit basis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Apply knowledge of accounting processes across several components of a specific business area or system.  Interpret data to identify and resolve issues. Provide clear reporting of information and analyze data within a business area to identify reporting improvements.  Own a highly complex set of processes (e.g. regional scope and multiple cross-functional seams), manage touchpoints and seams, resolve tradeoffs so that the processes deliver sustainable effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of indirect taxes and developments that affect the business/country
  • Develop case for change, regularly communicate on progress and status and lead transition plan for process, organization, systems, and tools
  • Bring any suspected issues (accounting or control related) forward immediately – work to quickly find solutions to such problem

  • Driving force behind strengthening working relationships with Controllership stakeholders. Serve as liaison on key engagements undertaken by the business, especially for Controllership stakeholders
  • Focus on customer service and satisfaction, including developing/ monitoring/ publishing a holistic SLA/KPI performance dashboard and engaging key stakeholders in performance dialogues
  • Maintain relationships with other engagement teams (GBS/GM Controllership) and monitor teams’ progress against plan and drive performance as required. 

Transformation

  • Lead the team to execute continuous improvements, redefine processes and continually raise the service level provided to our internal business customers.
  • Drive automation & digitization in a professional services environment including: innovating through new and existing technologies, along with experimenting with digitization solutions; working with large, complex data sets to build models and leverage data visualization tools; and utilizing digitization tools to gain efficiency.
  • Support and execute projects covering Tax Compliance activities

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 5 years of relevant Taxation experience
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • Experience working in a multinational organization or working with colleagues internationally is preferred
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge in Tax Accounting and Regulations and US GAAP, emphasizing an in-depth understanding of the applicable tax and accounting issues and technical accounting standards. – Additionally, continue to attend on these topics to remain adequately informed and knowledgeable
  • Working knowledge of SAP and other GM systems as required for the assigned position (systems and level of knowledge necessary will vary – employee must be willing to continuously learn the GM systems landscape and functionality)
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory or project management experience
