The Finance Manager is an expert in leading strategic financial initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational goals and market conditions. This role leads and develops a seven-member analyst team supporting Material & Tooling (vehicle and powertrain teams) and the Manufacturing Engineering teams. By managing cross-functional collaborations and presenting key financial insights to executive leadership, the Finance Manager enables data-driven decision-making and upholds operational excellence with a focus on strategic depth. This role partners closely with Engineering to ensure adherence to M&T budget guidelines while setting program targets, monitoring performance, and driving profit optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a seven-member analyst team with diverse skill sets; guide direct reports on scoping complex problems and developing creative, innovative financial solutions.
  • Partner with Engineering to ensure adherence to M&T budget guidelines while setting program targets and monitoring performance, risks, opportunities, and profit optimization actions.
  • Deliver executive-level insights by translating financial results to assure clear understanding of leadership direction and gain agreement regarding the business forecast direction; expertly adapt communication style and use persuasion to convey results and recommendations across different disciplines.
  • Drive continuous improvement in forecast accuracy, reporting processes, financial models, and workplace-of-choice initiatives across GPD Finance.
  • Develop operational plans, establish objectives for the team, allocate resources, and delegate assignments; drive strategy and implementation of large projects impacting multiple departments.
  • Be accountable for workforce planning, operational, and financial decisions in the area managed; set objectives and own the delivery of metrics and Key Performance Indicators that align with GM's strategic priorities.
  • Translate strategies into clear direction for the team; reprioritize and reallocate resources as appropriate based on changing business needs.
  • Build a team with the optimal mix of talent and experience; make staffing decisions, support and guide individual development of direct reports, and drive performance.
  • Develop plans for people resources and ensure team members are continuing to grow their skills and competencies; maintain continued career discussions with the team based on their unique strengths.
  • Help drive culture and workplace-of-choice initiatives within GPD Finance to make it a destination of choice; champion change management and role model GM's behaviors to maintain a productive team without inhibiting individuality and personal diversity.

Required Attributes

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field).
  • 7+ years of experience in finance
  • Experience in management or leadership
  • Demonstrate strong financial acumen by interpreting enterprise results, explaining underlying drivers, and delivering insights that drive alignment, action, and outcomes; apply strong business acumen and complex problem-solving techniques to issues that influence key functional objectives.
  • Build and sustain strong cross-functional relationships across Finance, Engineering, Program Management, and business partners, serving as a trusted consultative resource; influence others within and outside the organization who may be skeptical or unwilling to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
  • Use customer feedback and clear communication to improve support, strengthen business case development, and ensure on-time deliverables; proactively translate insights into actionable strategies to improve the customer experience.
  • Effectively plan, coordinate, and lead multiple concurrent projects while maintaining accurate storytelling and execution focus; demonstrate a bias for action and navigate high-pressure situations with composure and focus.
  • Effectively coach, develop, and strengthen team members and the team as a whole; listen and learn from each other; boost individual and team performance by adapting management styles and building high-performing teams.
  • Support clear communication, context, and complete openness within the team; foster an environment where team members feel safe to share ideas, ask questions, and speak fearlessly.

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Warren MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
