The Role
GM Defense delivers integrated vehicles and mobility solutions to defense, government, and security customers by leveraging the best of General Motors’ commercial technologies. We rapidly adapt proven architectures, components, and processes from GM’s global portfolio to meet demanding military and government requirements for performance, survivability, reliability, and total lifecycle cost.
The Electrical Validation Engineer will lead and support the electrical system validation activities for GM Defense programs. This role is responsible for helping define test strategies, preparing and executing validation work, monitoring tests, troubleshooting issues, analyzing results, and communicating technical findings to cross-functional teams.
This is a hybrid role with regular hands-on lab and test-site presence. The selected candidate will work closely with product engineering, design release, regulatory compliance, systems, and program teams to ensure the electrical components and systems are validated to program requirements and ready to support customer and business needs.
What You’ll Do

Plan, coordinate, and execute electrical validation activities for vehicle and subsystem programs

Develop validation approaches for electrical systems, components, and related interfaces based on program requirements and statements of requirements

Support test readiness, test setup, instrumentation, data collection, and test execution in lab and vehicle environments

Monitor ongoing tests, investigate faults, troubleshoot test and equipment issues, and drive timely resolution

Analyze test data and summarize results, issues, risks, and recommendations in clear technical reports and reviews

Partner with design, systems, software, program, and compliance teams to align validation work with product requirements and timing

Identify gaps in current electrical validation capability and help build stronger methods, processes, and technical depth within the team

Support issue triage, root cause investigations, and corrective action development related to electrical system performance or validation concerns

Contribute to validation planning for multiple concurrent programs, balancing priorities and supporting overall team execution

Help ensure electrical validation work supports applicable safety, regulatory, and customer requirements
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field

5+ years of Engineering experience

Experience in battery, electrification, energy storage, or vehicle subsystem validation
-
Electrical systems knowledge and troubleshooting Test planning and execution Data analysis and reporting

Experience troubleshooting test setups, instrumentation, hardware, or equipment issues
-
Experience analyzing technical data and presenting findings in a clear and actionable manner
-
Familiarity with validation tools and instrumentation
-
Problem-solving and root cause analysis Communication and teamwork

Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to work across engineering, program, and compliance organizations

Strong written and verbal communication skills
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment

Ability to work regularly on-site to support test preparation, execution, and issue resolution

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience with validation electrification components and troubleshooting

Ability to define and execute strong validation plans: GM guidance for validation activities emphasizes having step-by-step validation instructions, defined use cases, and clear validation sign-off/key personnel identified.

Experience with test management, data acquisition, and analysis tools used in validation environments

Experience supporting military, defense, specialty vehicle, or low-volume vehicle programs

Experience working with technical requirements, specifications, statements of requirements, or compliance-driven validation
-
Experience leading or influencing validation strategy for new or evolving product applications
